The Janesville Police Department will have extra officers on the lookout for impaired driving Thursday, according to a news release from the department.

The department received a $30,000 grant from the Wisconsin State Patrol Bureau of Transportation Safety in October to fund overtime and equipment to crack down on impaired-driving violations. It will put out additional officers to watch for impaired driving on various days throughout the year, including Thursday, the release says.

They could mean the Thursday before Thanksgiving which is the busiest night of the year, or they could just mean this Thursday. Thursday nights are primarily one of the busiest nights of the week. More so in some places than the weekend. Not sure why. Guess people can't wait that extra day and need a head start. Thursdays are nuts in a college town.

Let's imagine that all this grant money from state and federal government went toward public transportation rather than enforcement. We'd save money on prosecution and incarceration, and we'd reduce the incidence of drunk driving.

This year Thursday has three holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas eve, New Years eve (full moon).
St. Patrick's is on Wednesday.

BostonBill... You might want to take your decorative tie collection down too. I got stopped for that. They didn't have any problems with my bra collection though. Weird...

Yes. They are trained to be on the look-out for the deaf and blind daily. If only the chaos and mayhem they spread throughout the city on Thursday nights could be stopped...somehow...

Beeferer, I never thought about that. I’m going out to my car right now to remove the stuff from my rear view mirror. I’ll have to find another place to hang my baby shoes, fuzzy dice, rosary beads, tassel, my collection of connected flip-tops, necklace, air freshener, wind chimes and brassiere. Brassiere? Where the heck did that come from? Whatever! Thanks beeferer.

I read other papers online and have seen similar articles. The extra statewide enforcement starts Thursday. I am sure part of the effort is to publicize it with the idea that people will hopefully keep in mind that more cops are out there. The idiots that do not have a greater chance of getting arrested. Madison always says where there traffic unit is going to be working. For those wondering why Thursday....been downtown on Thursdays? It is the start of the weekend drinking for alot of people.

I have worked "road blocks" in other states..it is amazing how some people will drive right up to you, even if you put a sign at the bar.

Well I think the whole purpose of issuing drunk driving tickets is to deter drunk drivers from drunk driving......so how many drunk drivers are going to be detered from drunk driving when the Gazette runs an add about it. Unless some of you would prefer people would still drink and drive and play cat and mouse.

Why let the public know about this? This way they would catch more offenders.
