MADISON — Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle has signed a trade agreement with Israel on research and technology development.

Doyle said Tuesday the agreement creates a framework for Wisconsin’s and Israel’s scientists, engineers and researchers to work together in many fields, especially water technology, advanced agriculture and biotechnology. Doyle’s office says the agreement will help both Wisconsin and Israel compete in the global market.

Doyle signed the agreement with Israeli Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor Binyamin Ben-Eliezer. The agreement commits to investing in partnerships in research and development in private businesses, including finding a way to fund joint projects.

Doyle is in Israel this week as part of a trade mission.

at first I wondered why Diamond Jim was involved in trade agreements with foreign countries then I realized the title wasn't quite accurate. Its more tech sharing than trade.

not surprised at the Israel bashing in the comments though. I actually feel sorry for the Palestinians as they have been used as dupes by neighboring countries and their own leadership. there is a lot of money to be made where people are kept ignorant and angry. Israel blows up an ammo stash or rocket site that is usually sited next to or inside a hospital or some such site where casualties make for good press photos (and more money in donations from more innocent dupes who are appalled at the damage the evil Jews have done to innocent people).

Ah, so now Israel isn't allowed to defend herself against constant shellings and suicide bombings? The Palestinians are at the root of the conflict.

Maybe Jimmy will go over and help build more illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian land.

dub190, just because it's the Middle East does not mean it has oil. (There is some natural gas drilling off Gaza by BP.) Maybe olive oil ....
.
In principle the US supports trade with the PNA under the Oslo agreements, although they export very little, and almost all of that to Jordan. But your question is a good one. Probably a state like Michigan that has a large Arab-American population would be a likely candidate.

We know how any trade agreement the u.s.a. enters into will turn out. We lose. This isn"t even listed as a "fair" trade agreement. That wouldn"t matter anyway.
