Milton man arrested after standoff
A Milton man was arrested after a four-hour standoff with police.
At 1:37 a.m. Sunday, the Milton Police Department, along with Rock County Sheriff’s deputies and the Janesville Police Department’s K-9 unit were sent to the home of Michael Wendt, 23 of 154 East Madison St, Milton for a “shots fired” call.
Wendt, who was intoxicated, had possibly fired a gun inside the house, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.
At 2:04 a.m., the Rock County SWAT team was called in along with the hostage/negotiations team. The hostage/negotiations team was not able to contact Wendt, even after repeated calls to his home and cell phone.
At 5:22 a.m., the team was able to contact Wendt, and he was taken into custody without incident. Wendt was arrested on charges of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon while intoxicated.
In March, Wendt was charged of operating while intoxicated, first offense, for an incident that took place in February. He later entered a plea of "no contest" to a misdemeanor hit and run connected with the same incident.

Yeah, that's where the boys do it in Tennessee, too. (Didn't say they NEVER shot off a gun).

SwissChick,
I know some rednecks out West who are the same. They all agree, shooing a gun in a populated area is dumb. So they just get drunk and drive down low-density population roads shooting at road signs and rodents. Much, MUCH wiser decision...

Actually I know some "rednecks" down south and none of them would go shooting off a gun in such populated areas. They'd think that was stupid.

I think the poor man was a Gazetteextra blog reader and cracked under the strain of reading so many "My political party, right or wrong" comments.
I hope Mr. Wendt gets some help with whatever problems turned him to drinking and shooting a gun inside his home.

Did they mean to say E. Madison Ave? I don't think we have a E. Madison St. in Milton.

Please, a drunken man firing a gun, who would have thought of it? This has been happening since guns were invented. At least he didn't accidentally cut someone in half with a machete.

Wait. . .how did we go from a drunk guy in Milton with a gun, to politics 101 and world peace?

DanMan,
So, by your indication, you would rather the country have just a Judicial and Executive branch, and then those two should divvy up the responsibilities of making laws? The legislative branch is necessary. In fact, it's one of the MOST important branches, in this democratic republic. They are our voices more than the President of the United States, and SURELY more so than the judges appointed to the supreme court by our senior executive officer (Mr. President).

RUSerious, wise post. So many people blame President Bush for the war, economy, you name it. The president has a say, Congress makes the decisions. To blame President Obama for todays financial state is just as ridiculous. "We the people" have to decide what we want and how we will choose to fight for it. The poorest American is probably better off than 90% of the worlds population. Our current predicament is OUR fault, not the Presidents. Get these idiots out of D.C. (Senators and Congressmen), and our country would be much better off.

I went to the same high school as this guy and trust me. . . ., neither the water, Obama, or Bush had anything to do with it!?*

ummm, lovethemidwest, do you really think either president had anything to do with this small town man's probable mental health problems?
And cardtrader-"something in the water in Milton" ? I think whatever finds its way in to this man's water also finds its way into the water of a relative number of people in any city, county, state....
And as to the first 2 comments, I'm thinking it would be ridiculous to not to realize that some problems Obama will face will have been years in the making while others might come from missteps he could make himself. The main thing is, he is our president so we should hope (and pray if you are inclined to) that in the end he will have done whatever it takes to pull our country through whatever hard times we are and will be facing. Do you really think that he (or Bush for that matter) would purposely do it differently? For the sake of causing us problems? To what end?
But I'm afraid it won't change last night's incident in Milton.

lovethemidwest,
At least Bush will always be able to blame 9/11 on Clinton, right?

Yep, because Obama caused the financial collapse.

Obama is the luckiest man on earth. He can screw up everything he does and fools will continue to blame the previous idiot for it.

Yep. This has to be tied to a U.S. President directly. If I had to pin it on someone, I would have to pin it on Obama. After all, W was a holy crusader, where as Obama is the Anti-Christ.
