Gov. vetoes DNR secretary bill
MADISON — Gov. Jim Doyle has vetoed a bill that would have handed the power to appoint the state Department of Natural Resources secretary to a citizen board.
The governor currently has the power to appoint the DNR chief. Conservationists have complained that system introduces politics into outdoors decisions.
Under the bill, the board that controls the DNR would appoint the secretary with confirmation by the state Senate.
Doyle had long supported board appointment but changed his stance earlier this year.
Doyle said in a statement Friday the DNR can make more environmental progress with a direct line to the governor and that the gubernatorial process provides more accountability for citizens.

First he was for it before he was against it....
What changed?
When he was for it he was AG and Tommy was Governor.
Now that he is Governor, he is against it.
Two faced Jim....again.....

I don't think Doyle has been a great Governor but I also don't think he has been a bad one either.

the Gov. does not get it that we need LESS govt. involvement and LESS stupid rules that make no common sense. I vote - no govt.! Let the people live their own lives.

Sad, sad, commentary on how power corrupts. This is a position which should not be political. Too bad!

We've been living on the same planet bobb. Most politicians are liked by some of their constituents, and disliked by others. I am pleased with Doyle's accomplishments as Governor. Maybe the tables will turn, and YOU will like the next Governor. Who knows.

This veto allows the 'checks and balances' to work properly. Good move Governor! I wonder who will watch out for us when Governor Doyle leaves office??
