ALBION TOWNSHIP—Edgerton fire officials continue to investigate an early morning tobacco shed fire that destroyed its wood-frame structure and contents, according to Brian Demrow, fire chief.

Edgerton firefighters found the building fully engulfed upon arrival at 306 Goede Road, about a mile north of the Edgerton city limits in Dane County, Demrow said.

“The building was already burned down to the ground when we got there,’’ he said.

Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire that was reported at 1:02 a.m. They also are still trying to figure out what was inside and where the fire started. The nature of the fire, however, is not considered suspicious, Demrow said.

The shed, its contents—farm equipment and machinery inside and outside—already are considered a total loss, he said.

The estimated loss, at this time, is more than $1 million dollars, according to a press release from the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

Demrow said the department also is working on getting information regarding the shed’s owner.

A house, another barn and out buildings received no damage because they were at least 50 feet away from the shed, he said.

There also were no injuries, Demrow said.

Milton Fire Department provided a tanker and Evansville firefighters provided backup at Edgerton's fire station, Demrow said.

Thank you to all you who have the sense to realize that all the facts should be consumed before making any assumptions. Anyone with half a brain would have figured out that the worse possible time to burn your 2 year old equipment would be right in the middle of harvesting season with over 2000 acres left to harvest!!!!!!

Apparently all you people are very bored with your lives and need hobbies. If you knew the family, you would know they would never set that fire. They dont need the equipment or the money. Get the facts before you spout a bunch of crap.

Until stated otherwise, your negative assumptions aren't appreciated or respected. Something as simple as a squirrel or mouse chewing through wiring on a tractor could have caused this.
