Is buck a world record?
SHEBOYGAN — A Wisconsin man says he has his fingers crossed and he’s saying his prayers as he waits to find out if the buck he shot last week is a world record.
Michael Gregoire of Sheboygan Falls took the deer with a bow and arrow Thursday on his brother’s farm just west of Sheboygan Falls.
The 12-point buck weighed 240 pounds and the rack has been unofficially scored at 217 5/8 inches. A 60-day drying period must first pass before an official score is granted.
The Boone and Crocket Club Web site says the world record for a typical whitetail rack is 213 5/8 inches, shot with a rifle in Canada in 1993. The state record is 206 1/8 inches.
Now, all Gregoire can do is wait for the day drying period to elapse and for three licensed, random scorers to render their verdict.

I do believe that the 30 pointer shot earlier this year would have been considered non-typical. This buck is classified as a typical white-tail.

I read a Journal Sentinel article on the deer at lunch and may need to recant my "surprised at 200" statement. The deer has been measured by a couple of different judges giving it the 217 score. While not as wide as the Jordan buck, it has 12 points and similar mass. It hasn't gotten the width or main beam length but 200 is a possibility if measured as typical. Here is the World Record Typical Bow deer.

It hasn't got the mass of the Jordan Buck, with deductions I would be surprised at 200.
But it is a great deer.

Deer are nothing more than a huge rodent with horns. But they do taste better though. Nice buck no matter how it scores. Once in a lifetime opportunity.

Cardtrader do you or have you ever hunted? when you hunt late afternoon, when the deer is active and you make a hit. you should always wait at least a half hour before tracking to make sure your deer is down. That is probly why you seen a spot light on his head gear. you do whatever it takes to find your kill.

No, it's those darn drunken deer!
I am corrected though.
Pope & Young are the keepers of only deer taken with a bow. A record that was held by an Illinoisian.
Boone and Crocket are taking records from guns, bows, small rocks, and chevys. Their record non typical was collected by a Missouri road crew. That is not a joke.

I love deer stories on here cause all the idiots that know absolutely nothing about bow hunting have to give their professional knowledge of said sport. Way to go Mr. Gregoire. Hope its a record!!

Wow cardtrader, do you honestly think he would be able to hunt after dark with that tiny light on his head? You probably can't see more than 20 feet with that light! Common sense buddy!

Many times a hunter will wait as long as possible to get his/her deer especially if he or she knows they got a good shot. There is less risk of the injured animal jumping up and running away only to die in a hard to reach spot or possibly die without ever being found. That's probably why he waited until dark.
