MADISON — The state Assembly decided against voting on a bill toughening drunken driving laws even after it approved a similar measure and the Senate passed it unanimously earlier Thursday.

Democratic Assembly leaders said in a press release issued late Thursday night that they needed more time to work out what they called minor differences.

Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan, D-Janesville, said the bill could be passed in a special session. Thursday was the last scheduled day for the Legislature to be in session this year.

Lawmakers had been working on the measure for months, and a very similar version passed the Assembly unanimously two months ago.

biggirl: Oh yes your so right, maybe we should even soften up the drunk driving laws we have now so we can make it a bit easyer for them to drive drunk. Maybe our social problems will even take care of themselves if we don't get the drunk drivers mad by making new laws to keep our loved ones safe fron getting killed on the road. Some people's kids .....

Sannio: You are so right. The state keeps increasing its power by passing more and more laws. There are other ways to handle social problems besides always passing a law that increases the state's power.

Yeah they didn't pass the bill, but what really kind of strikes me as odd is that Thursday was November 5th, there is close to two months of the year left and it is the last scheduled day for them to meet? What are they going to do between now and December 31? I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about the inner workings of the our state assembly but really, what are they going to do for the next two months?

I wonder if the "minor differences" include campaign donations from the tavern league and/or major breweries to select members of both parties?

What a joke, and the government wonders why the people don't like them?
