JANESVILLE--Janesville police responded around 8:45 a.m. today to a house in the 1200 block of Badger St., for a report of a man threatening suicide, said Sgt. Anne Brophy.

Police closed Mount Zion Avenue at Ringold and Fremont Streets plus they closed Matheson Street at Ringold and Fremont Streets.

A Gazette photographer, at the scene, reported about a dozen officers--some directing traffic, some carrying long guns.

Police also requested a Janesville Fire Department ambulance to stage nearby, at the intersection of Matheson and Ringold Streets.

Officers are getting into position, but have not tried to talk to anyone inside, Brophy said.

It's the police responsibility to try and resolve a situation like this. That's the part you don't get. Whether you like it or not, it's part of their job.

I also never said I agree with suicide! I was talking about how the police handled a specific situation that you seemed to have an issue with.

Yes, sparky, I do have a clue. It was pathetic and you know it! We are not Little Chicago here, yet, anyways. And suicide is stupid so let him do it. You never know what is going to happen in your life so if you want to kill yourself, I for one do not feel sorry for anyone who commits suicide.

there was two seperate incidents one in the morning and one in the afternoon, I think the guy with the knife was living on Randall the more serious one was in the morning.

justme46 - You are absolutely clueless. By the way, Janesville has had a SWAT team for more than a few years now. Poor guy with a knife? Forget him! He put everyone else in a horrible situation. My God!

"Officers are getting into position", what the hell does that mean? We now have our own swat team I see. This poor guy with only a knife was probably scared to death!! Oops! Sorry, shouldn't have said death. Suicide is very serious and very stupid, I think JPD over reacted, again.

Scanner says they came to arrest him and something about a domestic disturbance that has now turned to suicide. Its not just him he could harm others. Look at Kyle H??? from 4th ward this spring do we need a repeat?

And if it was your brother Napalm, would you feel the same?

I could only imagine how low you would have to feel to do something like that. I hope everyone involved will be ok.

Just let him be? They wouldn't be doing their jobs if they did that. He's a danger to himself and others if he's suicidal, especially if he has a weapon.
