Deadline is Sunday for do-not-call list

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsinites who want to be on the most updated do-not-call list have until this weekend to sign up.

The no-call list is updated quarterly. Names drop off the list after two years unless people sign up again.

Glen Loyd, spokesman for the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, said people who sign up by Sunday will be on the July 1 no-call list. Otherwise they have to wait until the October list comes out, he said.

The list protects cell phones and land lines from unwanted telemarketer calls. Registration is free.

Loyd advises people not to wait until the last minute. He said the agency gets as many as 100,000 registrations in one day, which bogs down the system.

Know the feeling schnck. When I moved here I had it out with Orkin. I never called them nor wanted them. But the previous owners had them and these clowns tried to tell me that I "had a contract" with them. Threatened to call the Dept of Ag and turn them in. They never showed again nor called.

I think there should be something for those Tru Green Lawn people! There are the most harassing company! I have told them every year don't call me and don't come to my house and they still come!

My son likes to talk made up languages to these irritating callers! One time he was telling a man who called he sounded really cute, and asked him if he wanted to go out on a date....man hung up! LOL

While we're making up a wishlist, what the heck is the purpose of forcing taxpayers to renew their registration? How about making the registration PERMANENT? If I lose my mind down the road & want off the list, I can then go back & un-register!

miyata312-You mean you expect logic out of your legislators, rather than just making a "show"?

It would be better if instead of a "no-call list" they make it a "allow call list" so people can sign up IF they want telemarketers to be able to call their numbers. Or change the way the fines are levied. Increase the fine to $10K per incedent giving the victim 3/4 of the fine tax free. That should make these companies think twice about calling people they arent supposed to.

Have the non-internet-using relatives call 1-866-9NO-CALL.

Do an older non-Internet-using relative or friend a favor and put their number on the list as well. I won't tell...

Thank you for the website!!! I just went and added our home and mobile phones. It would have been nice to see the Gazette provide the contact info!! But, either way, I got it and did it.
