Smoke prompts school evacuation
JANESVILLE--Students and staff at Jefferson Elementary School, 1830 Mount Zion Ave., were evacuated around 10:15 a.m. today after a report of a commercial fire alarm.
Upon investigation, Janesville firefighters found smoke in the building that resulted from an overheated fluorescent light in a display case in the school’s main hallway, said a spokesman from the fire department.
Nobody was hurt and everyone has returned to inside the school building. Firefighters were on scene for less than 30 minutes.

Thank you, Janesville Fire Department and the staff at Jefferson. I'm a Jefferson parent and I'm grateful you kept the kids safe!
