Everyone on the Alpine Ascents expedition has made it down to Camp IV on the South Col safely. (The South Col is a windy ridge 3000 feet below the summit. The altitude is so high, and oxygen level so low, that it is within the "death zone".)

Congratulations -absolutely amazing. My brother-in-law Tom Whittaker was the first amputee to reach the summit of Mt Everest. What an amazing experience.

Yeah, stay safe on your way down. It's just as dangerous as the way up, if not more dangerous. Congrats!

Earlier story here:
http://gazettextra.com/news/2009/may/20/...
.
Though an incredible number of climbers are summitting this year, Everest still remains deadly, with three deaths this year so far. All told over 9% of climbers have not made it back off the mountain alive.
.
Interestingly, there was another woman with MS climbing this year; she did not summit, though, which apparently makes Schneider the first.
