Program change for Janesville's Memorial Day ceremony
One of the main speakers at Janesville's Memorial Day ceremony will not be able to deliver his speech Monday. Tom Stehura, president of the Janesville Patriotic Society, said Friday afternoon Colonel Andrew Poppas will not be attending the ceremony. He says Poppas apologizes, but cannot leave his base. Specific details are not available, but Stehura says Poppas is waiting for his commanding general to provide further information.
Poppas had been scheduled to speak on his experiences in Iraq and the importance of supporting American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Do one thing on Memorial day... Thank a veteran.. shake their hand, and say thanks for serving... I never served, but I sure am thankful for those that did, and for their sacrifice...

Poppas isn't just any Colonel. As an LTC he commanded troops in several key operations including the Battle of Turki and in the Diyala River Valley. A distinguished guest indeed; a shame he could not attend.
