Lawmaker says talks continue on Wis. budget deal
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan says talks are still ongoing to reach a budget deal that can pass a committee vote by the end of next week.
The Democratic co-chairs of the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee have said they want to approve the two-year budget by the end of the month. Doing that would give the Assembly and Senate time to vote on it before the new fiscal year starts July 1.
Passing a balanced budget got much harder with news earlier this month that the state's projected budget shortfall was $1.6 billion larger than previously estimated.
Sheridan, a Janesville Democrat, said Wednesday that he did not know if the committee would meet this week or not. But he says work is continuing.

Now is the time to contact our representatives in the assembly & senate and express your concerns about the budget. I looked up some of those so called coalition advocacy groups that want tax increases. WI Counties Association, WI council of Children & Families, Coalition of WI Aging Groups, Fond du Loc County executive Director Allen Buechel. About 60 different state supported groups in all.
