JANESVILLE--A cat is to blame for the power outage affecting 450 to 470 customers tonight, Alliant Energy spokesman Scott Reigstad said.

The outage started around 9:40 p.m. after a cat got into a circuit at a substation on the north side of Janesville, he said.

Power was restored to most customers by 11 p.m., and crews continuted to work to restore power to the remaining customers.

Hmmm, good, idea, hannah. Choice of skinned or not skinned.

Can you do that image of a cat here? You, know, with the typing characters.

When my lights flickered I was NOT thinking, "stupid cat".... craziness! How did a cat get to the wires again? Don't they have them like closed off or something? Strange.

"a cat got into a circuit" is the short explanation.

anyone see the sky lit up around 9:20pm? I live near the substation and it was brighter than daylight for about 3-5 seconds when the cat got toasted. The while entire sky lit up with a strange blue and white light. Definately was alarming.

Ew GREATIDEA, you just reminded me of how much I hated star trek. I still can remember late at night that stinking music and the space craft flying across the screen. Urgh. I hated that! Almost as much as Hogan's Heros....lol.

You know, I just thought of something, I am wondering if kitty chose to enter this box in need of somewhere to have her kittens or if she had kittens in there?? That is usually when a kitty chooses unusual hidden places. I am so hoping this isn't the case. Oh my silly mind is running away with this..... LOL. It is just that time of year though that you see all those cute little babies all over the place, although cats tend to have babies all the time....

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the cat. He/she is in a better place now.

The cat's dead, that's how they know what caused the outage. He was probably still smokin upon the lineman's arrival.

I was watching the Brewer game and working on the computer when all of a sudden boom everything was black. We couldn't see a darn thing in the apartment. I live a couple blocks off Milton Avenue and it was dark. It was kinda nice to be able to see the stars though.

Not so funny for me at about 10:15 when a chic in a red, I think it was a 2-door Cobalt, about plowed into me with 5-8 cops there. I don't think anyone left the scene to chase her down, even though I was in her lane and laying on my horn. Pretty dangerous!

Milton Ave was completely dark at 10pm. It was kinda weird driving it in almost complete darkness. There were police officers at intersection since the traffic lights were out.

I was wondering why my lights went dim for a minute. Thought I was about to blow a fuse or something. Hope power is restored asap to those affected!

If that was what caused my lights to dim about 20 minutes ago, that's about the fastest reporting I've ever seen.
