Beloit residential fires result in citations
From the WCLO newsroom:
Beloit residents are receiving citations after two residential fires Wednesday.
In one case, burning embers sparked $40,000 damage. In the other, a malfunctioning bathroom ventilation fan caused about $200 damage. However, both properties are rental units and neither of the units had working smoke detectors.
Beloit's ordinance requires the landlords to install the smoke detectors and the occupants to maintain them.
In the larger fire, there were no smoke detectors at all, and the landlord received a citation. In the smaller fire, the smoke detectors did not have batteries and so the tenants were issued citations.

In Janesville if you are the owner and resident of the property, you can get a citation for the same reason. When I bought the house I didn't get an ordinance manual, how are we suppose to know all this stuff?
