Local pastor sentenced for obstructing an officer
JANESVILLE -- A pastor convicted of obstructing an officer after a jury trial in Rock County Court was sentenced Tuesday afternoon to a year of probation and 100 hours of community service.
David J. Fogderud, 66, of 3545 S. Riverside Drive, Beloit, was arrested in August 2007 after attempting to invite two teens to a Christian Rock concert and later getting stopped by police during an investigation into the incident.
The incident occurred at Burger King, 400 W. Centerway.
Fogderud is the founder of The Overflowing Cup Total Life Center in Beloit.

brewernut, I agree wholeheartedly with you on that. Pastor Dave is infact "odd" in many ways and that's a good quality he has because he understands you have to be different to make a difference. His ordeal with the police that got him in this mess wasn't a testament to the person he is. Infact, the article for this story is very biased just because the writer of the article needed to stir the pot and feed his paper. That's our society though. Capitalize off of others shortcomings. It sells so well. David Fogderud is a pastor, yes, however, he's a human being first and foremost.

I agree with you, Gmaof3...we can be thankful that the kids seem to understand the potential danger. STRANGER DANGER, my son says.

Cheesehead, have you ever been to his ministry? Uh I doubt it with a bonehead comment like he is doing this for money. Unlike other promintent ministers in the area driving around in their Esclades and wearing rolexes, Dave is a very simple man and almost all of his time and money go to help homeless people. He is from a simpler time when neighbors helped their neighbors. This winter when the temps were <-10, he was the only church in beloit to open his doors for 24 hours so people wouldn't freeze to death. Dave is odd, I give you that, but as far as scam ministries goes he not on that list. Yes the sentence is appropriate for what he was accused of doing.

localboy .. that's a very key point. His actions don't mirror the duties of his profession. Do unto others as you would have done onto you. His disrespect for the law is the issue here and it's the reason Fogderud is being sited. I also agree with mathew516. He's displaying a lack of respect for his religion as well. It's a testament to the society that we live in, however, that people would judge the many by the acts of the few. It's called shallow.

The actions of the few have consequences on the many. It's a shame that people representing a foundation act selfishly not thinking about the many that they will affect by their actions. I've known Pastor Dave for some time now and he's not a bad person, he simply chooses to make poor decisions at times that leave me scratching my head. Whether people want to hear it or not, the man has done alot of very good things for people in need that have had nowhere to turn. He doesn't ask for accolades either. Unfortunately, the attention he's drawing now isn't becoming of the kind of person he really is.

He wasn't arrested for approaching the kids, he was arrested for being a jerk to the police and not obeying commands. He did the crime, now he does the time. Great role model. He can listen to instructions from a guy he never seen (God), but he can't follow instructions from a law officer which he is required to do.

Let's just shut down ALL public establishments, malls, parks, schools, restuarants etc. This way if someone says hello to a child that is not related to them they will not get arrested and become villians. Feed your kids at home, home school your kids and only let them out when they reach the age of 18.

Seems an appropriate sentence to me. He needs to understand that he can't just approach kids without it being perceived as aggressive.
.
The potential abduction in Traxler Park is just another case of children being in harms way...
.
I don't know if perps are getting more brazen, if it is being reported more or what, but it all gives me the creeps!

They should prevent him from serving those hours in his so-called "ministry". That place is nothing but a scam to milk people of their money.
