MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican lawmakers say plans to let inmates out of prison earlier and scale back GPS tracking for sex offenders will put the public at risk.

Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle's budget calls for letting felons out of prisons earlier for good behavior.

It also would allow the Department of Corrections to decide whether serious sex offenders need real-time GPS tracking for more than a year.

GOP legislators had Mark Lansford address reporters Thursday. Lansford has traveled the country advocating for tougher sex offender laws since 2005, when a sex offender killed his 9-year-old daughter, Jessica, in Florida. Lansford asked why Wisconsin wants to soften its sex offender laws.

Doyle's spokeswoman, Carla Vigue, didn't immediately return a message.

dub190, only if they can make it up to a minute for waterboarding. SERE trainees only last 14 to 40 seconds.

Minan: Good point. We're making drastic cuts to UW-Rock and UW-Whitewater, among other schools, and yet we pay for every little cent when it comes to enforcement, even of underage drinking. Let's get real now!

So the 17 year old who get charged with second degree sexual assault for having a 16 year old girlfriend who willingly participates in sexual activity isn't a non-violent sex offender? And don't think your local district attorney isn't charging minors for sex with thier high school peers. He is.

there is no such thing as a non-violent sex offender, even the most minor acts of sexually based crimes are violent, even if not one drop of blood is lost the victim will never be the same. sex crimes are the worst of the worst aside from murder. letting them out early and not tracking them for more than a year just to save a buck is one of the worst moves any politician could or would make. Disagree if you want, but just hope your son, or daughter, or you are never a victim.

I imagine Diamond Jim Doyle would be willing to cancel his cutback in exchange for an totally unrelated campaign contribution.
.
The Republican lawmakers should prepare a pamphlet for released offenders, assisting them in looking for housing near 99 Cambridge Road in the Village of Maple Bluff, Wisconsin.
