Pawlenty wants to see Favre in Vikings purple

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota's governor is salivating at the thought of Brett Favre playing for the Vikings.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty says putting the former Green Bay Packer in purple would be fun for fans.

He says it would be "a wonderful little salt to rub in the eyes of some of our Green Bay Packer friends."

Pawlenty laid out the scene: "Can you imagine Brett Favre going into Lambeau Field in Viking purple and maybe even wearing No. 4? There would be audible gasps. There would be 60,000 audible gasps as he came out of the tunnel."

Minnesota and Wisconsin have been working to save money by sharing some state functions and equipment, but Pawlenty says everybody gets the joke when it comes to the Vikings-Packers rivalry.

I guess this is another case of the media sticking it's nose in someone else's business and causing grief. Imagine if the media had left him alone in the first place and quit speculating and running with rumors. So, all of you who hate him...you can back off now.

Reasons why Favre won't succeed with the Vikings. 1. He is nearly 40 and, allegedly, coming off a torn biceps muscle injury (plus his chronic shoulder and hip problems). 2. His motivation is spite and revenge which might give him enough adrenaline to play the two Packer games but the NFL season is 16 games, not two. 3. Two of the last three seasons have been terrible for Brett especially late in the season when his body starts to break down. 4. Childress may want to take note that the last coach who coached Favre was fired for having a season that did not live up to all the hype and lofty expectations created by Favre Frenzy. He also left the Jets locker room divided over Favre's ability to lead the team. 5. Peterson is a stud and the star of that team. Is he willing to step aside for Favre and, more importantly, is the egomanic willing to share the spotlight with his star running back. 6. Who the heck is Favre going to throw to - the Viking receivers are almost as bad as the Bears. 7. Favre has admittedly not picked up a football since the end of last season. 2008 was his only good year in the past three and that was the only season of the three in which he trained ALL off season.
I see this ending badly because the expectations will far surpass what Favre is capable of delivering at this stage of his career. The Jets expected playoffs. The Vikings (already a playoff team) and their fans will accept nothing less than a ring and that is one heck of a lot of pressure even for someone as great as Brett once was. Just look at Brett's record in the playoffs since the mid 90's...it ain't going to happen.

Yes, if he was consistent and always said he wanted to keep playing i might be on his side, but this i'm done, i'm not, i'm done, i'm not is making him look ridiculous. he ticked off alot of packer fans when he left and got jets fan's hopes up and shot them down. also, his jet teammates said he was a diva that didn't hang in the same room with them. he should call it a day before he ticks off another whole fan base.

Back when Favre was playing his "will I be back, or won't I be back" game, and the ensuing Jet's saga, I said New York would be a perfect fit because as the drama queen he is, he could always find work on Broadway.

But I must admit, I was wrong.

It now appears that his true calling would be with Ringling Brothers as a circus clown.

If you watched the Jets last 6 games last year you know how this is going to end for Favre. The Vikings always make the wrong move at the wrong time. Remember the Hershal Walker trade?

Brett Favre has paid his dues. Thompson should be the one everyone is booing. He has treated Brett like crap and this is what Brett gets for being loyal for 17 years. I say, good luck to you Brett. I can say that part of me will be sad what ever the outcome of the Pack vs. Vikings. Of course I want the Pack to win, but I also want Brett to win. He deserves it.

His loyalty is football, something that he loves! We should enjoy watching him play while we can even if it is not on our team! He plays for the love of the game and its a pleasure to see him on the field regardless of the color of his uniform.

The guy was a womanizer. He hung with Chumura and I think Winters. The 3 of them had some weird nickname. It was well known that his wife was ready to leave him if he didn't grow up, stop the drinking and cheating. I believe most of this was reported when he was addicted to the drugs.
+
Yeah, the Vikes become, on paper, the best team in the North if a healthy B. Favre signs with them but like I said, with the suffering of packer fans, it might be worth it. The Bears are still a WR away from competing for a superbowl. They are a good team, with the best QB in the North but they are winning anything significant this year (unless they pull of a huge trade for Boldin or sign Burress and he plays) so watching the Vikes win a division with Favre as their QB would be worth it…even if they sweep the Bears.

GO BEARS!!!

Reasons why Favre would succeed with the Vikings: 1) The offense is extremely similar to what Green Bay used when he was there. 2) Favre is good friends with Vikings QB coach Darrell Bevell who was also his QB coach in GB. 3) The Vikings have a much better supporting cast than the Jets had (Adrian, and a massive O-line). 4) Childress rarely calls home run deep passes, his system is short precise routes which is where Favre excels. The way I see it, there is little risk with the Vikes bringing in Favre. If he fails, you go back to what you already had before him which is what they would have had this season anyway. He has the skill set to succeed with Minnesota, but the big question mark is his durability.

I don't care who he plays for. I think finishing on top should have been his priority and what he is doing now just embarrasses him. I also feel, that he is just inviting injury at this age and it could be an injury that is with him the rest of his life. All in all, if he wants to play for the Vikings, I don't care. I will root against him when he plays the Packers.

I have no clue how the Vikings think that at this stage in Favre's career, he would be better than Sage Rosenfel. And with Tavaris Jacksons improvement through last year I dont see him being better than T.J. I would love to see Favre in a Viking uniform if thats what he really wants. To be embarrassed again would be a life lesson to all whos ego's are bigger than reality.

Favre has every right to play football, regarles of where it is. And no matter how many Favre hatters there are out there he will go down in history as one of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game. He has given the NFL 17 years of his life and if he wants to retire and unretire a 100 times then so be it. Why do so many people care about his reasons? The man has a passion for the game and loves to play. "If you do something you love, then you will never work a day in your life"

whythink---I have lost a lot of respect for Favre during this whole retirement ordeal. That being said, if he plays for the Vikings that only means the BEARS have 4 automatic losses in the division before it even starts. 2 to the PACK,and 2 to the Vikings. In his career, Favre has owned the Bears. He will still throw 3 picks per game, 2 returned for TD'S.

This entire Favre saga is great because all the blind packer fans who defended Favre cheating on his wife, drug addiction, ints., etc... are ripping him for wanting to continue his career. Weird, cheating on your wife OK, wanting to play for the vikes, "How could you?"
+
Even if this means a Vike Superbowl, which might be worth it because Pack fans will suffer more than me (bears fan), I will enjoy it. I just won't visit the espn vikes board for the next couple years.
