ELKHORN--Some current and former members of the Darien Village Board will meet in August for a status hearing with Walworth County Judge John Race.

Judge Robert Kennedy set the hearing date Tuesday afternoon.

Race could set a trial date at that time, Kennedy said.

Seven people are accused of violating Wisconsin’s Open Meetings Law.

Attorneys for the two sides still are negotiating.

Accused are: Bob Metzner, Bob Wenzel, James Abbott, Phil Putman, Kurt Zipp, Craig McCue and Allen Kenyon.

The charges are not criminal, but each man faces three counts, each carrying a forfeiture of $25 to $300.

The charges stem from meetings allegedly posted incorrectly last fall.

why would anyone want to serve on a board if they can be sent to court for something that they had no control over? What a waste of court time and money.

Biggreendad: I have never spoken with or met Mrs. K. I don't do what anyone else tells me either. So quit making false accusations like many others have done. I was never in favor of wasting taxpayer money. I don't believe government employees should keep their jobs if they are not doing them properly or not doing them at all. That is a waste of taxpayer money. It is unfortunate that lawsuits and money is the reason why many government employees keep their jobs even though they should not. It is difficult to fire a government employee for many of them will in turn sue and many of them will receive some type of settlement. Which is completely ridiculous if there is good reason for the termination. If the government started working more like the private sector these types of problems would not occur. Tax dollars would also be spent differently if the government was run more like the private sector as well.

This supposed "signed agreement" you have does mean nothing, just like your comments.

What kind of "signed agreement" do you have? Was that "agreement" filed with the court? Without an appearance being filed with the court and/or without any personal appearance by Attorney Danz in court on their behalf, your statement that he is representing them is false. And a simple check of CCAP makes it perfectly clear that your statement that he appeared in court with them twice is also false.

Wow, can everyone really just say anything on here without any consequences for their blatent misrepresentations???

oplease: Attorney Danz did NOT appear with 6 of the 7 board members yesterday, NOR did he appear with any of them at the first court date, NOR does he represent any one of them. Two of the board members have retained counsel (NOT Attorney Danz since there would be a conflict), and the other five board members are representing themselves at this point. Everyone needs to check their facts before spreading misinformation on this blog. Opinions are one thing, flat out lies are another.
