Report: Favre to meet with Vikings coach Childress

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Just when Brett Favre looked to finally be out, the Minnesota Vikings could be pulling him back in.

Citing an anonymous source "with direct knowledge of the discussions between the two parties," ESPN reported Tuesday that Favre is scheduled to meet with Vikings coach Brad Childress later this week about a possible comeback with Minnesota.

Favre's agent, Bus Cook, did not immediately return a phone call to his Mississippi office left by The Associated Press.

Those of you touting Rogers...are cracking me up. You are actually comparing him to Favre? In what way? He's already been "hurt" and sat out. So the toughness comparison went out the window early on. If you really think he will get anywhere near Brett's records, you have a marble or two loose. Yes,that does include interceptions...you take the good with the bad and that is what makes Brett so much fun to watch.

I dont want to see Brett go to the Vikings As much as the next person, but how can people just bash the man after what he has giving the state of Wisconsin. Before him a .500 season was a great year. He brought back the winning tradition in Green Bay. In a few years when its all said and done he still will be one of the greatest things thats ever happened to the NFL. I think people have forgotten that THE GREAT VINCE LOMBARDI went to the Redskinsbefore he died and how do we all feel about him?

Favre is showing what a no class jerk he really is. He doesn`t care one bit about
The Greenbay Packers. I hope Rodgers breaks
all of Favre`s records.

I wonder if those hooligans who painted the sign on Milton Ave regret sticking up for this guy? While the Packer nation is just as upset as i am about this the NFL is loving all the attention this is going to receive for at least another year!

MiltonRedmen: Let's not forget that the Vikings have the 2nd easiest schedule in the entire NFL this season. Who has the 1st?? Da Bears. The Packers, however, have the 7th most difficult schedule. I believe. The Jets schedule last year was fairly easy, but not to the tune of .412. With Peterson, Percy Harvin and Brett's skill set... #4, who turns 40 this year, very well could win his 4th MVP and lead the (???) to Super Bowl 44.

The durability is a large question mark that the Vikings and Childress have got to be concerned about. I guess only another MRI and look at the 2nd half of the schedule will really determine how big of a gamble it will all be.

jvldss: I think what his Jets' teammates did at the end of the season was petty and juvenile. You do NOT throw a teammate under the bus: period. You do NOT whine that "this was suppose to be an offense set up for ME" when a legend joins your team. Thomas Jones and Laverneus Coles are bigger babies than even Brett.

I'm just curious what they are going to do with John David Booty. He wears #4. There is no way Minnesota, classless or not, will ask Brett Favre to wear a different number. So. Will they trade him for another high profile player that Brett "wants"?? Or ask ol' JD to switch numbers for the year or two?

I wonder if Mark Tauscher will join Brett on the Minnesota roster?? And, I also "hear" that Ron Dayne is looking for a team to pick him up this year and he doesn't want to move far from home (Wisconsin). Green Bay won't look at him because they don't like "big" running backs. Well, guys, that scrawny cry baby you have running for you isn't cutting it either.

And, jvldss, I will agree....Brett probably played in too many games while hurt. However, where does the REAL culpability lie for that? I say coaches and management. Like you said, no one is bigger than the team. Period.

Reasons why Favre would succeed with the Vikings: 1) The offense is extremely similar to what Green Bay used when he was there. 2) Favre is good friends with Vikings QB coach Darrell Bevell who was also his QB coach in GB. 3) The Vikings have a much better supporting cast than the Jets had (Adrian, and a massive O-line). 4) Childress rarely calls home run deep passes, his system is short precise routes which is where Favre excels. The way I see it, there is little risk with the Vikes bringing in Favre. If he fails, you go back to what you already had before him which is what they would have had this season anyway. He has the skill set to succeed with Minnesota, but the big question mark is his durability.

Momo - I appreciate and respect everything Brett DID for the franchise. Heck, he lead us to the only superbowl win we've had as a team in 40 years. In fact, I could argue that it should have been more Superbowls if not for #4's string of horrendously awful 3-6 pick playoff performances. I did not like the way it ended for him in Green Bay but I place equal blame on Thompson and Favre for that outcome. No player is bigger than the team, even a Hall of Fame QB.

Unfortunately, the Vikings, with or without Favre, are still better than the Packers because of their great offensive and defensive lines and one AP. They will likely go to the playoffs again even without Favre. If our defensive and offensive line can stay healthy and play at the 2007 level we should be able to be competitive. Rodgers, or the lack of Favre, was not the problem last year.

I do agree though that if Favre lands with the Vikings the NFC North should be pretty interesting this season. It would suck to be Chicago having given up their starting QB, two first round draft picks and another pick to land what will likely be the third best quarterback in the division. Plus all that preseason hype of having a new quarterback will be overshadowed by the Favre saga

I just can't support a player whose sole motivation for returning is to try stick it to his former team, which happens to be my team. He seems so blinded by his hatred for Thompson that he is making decisions that are undermining his Packer legacy and turning many Packer fans against him in the process. The Favre apologists will always love him regardless of what he does and doesn't do, but id he goes to the Vikes I imagine more fans will jump from the Favre is God bandwagon.

As for Raji, I am hoping that the new Viking center who replaces Birk (a big loss) gets bowled over a couple of times so our big ol' rookie can introduce himself to the old man. I also hope that some of the vets who played with Favre just might want to elevate their games a bit for those two games either out of respect or jealousy. I'm sure more than a couple of them probably didn't appreciate all the special treatment their star QB received over the years. It sure didn't take the Jet players long to turn on him.

Ooooohhhh....I wish we teed it up tomorrow.

Jvldss: if you want to take away Brett's CAREER high 6 td game, then I'd like to remove his awful 4 int game from the record. I get that you don't like Brett. I'm growing increasingly frustrated with him as of late myself. But to down play a HUGE game is absurd. Especially since it was against the NFC champs and Super Bowl runner's up.
.
Look at these season stats for Brett. 95-96 (Super Bowl 31 year), 04-05 (4-12 year), 07-08 (13-3 year, lost in NFC Championship game) and the 08-09 season (9-7 with the Jets who were 4-12 the year prior). His stats are nearly dead even consistent all of those years. With the exception of the Super Bowl year, he has almost always thrown a 1:1 td/interception ratio. "We" hate it, but that's why we love to watch Brett: because he makes the big plays. His completions, yardage, passer rating and attempts are VERY consistent in all 4 years. Sadly, so are the interceptions. But, that's why "we" love to hate and hate to love the ol' gunslinger.
.
I HATE this talk about the Vikings. But, jvldss, you say hpw dare Brett forget about the organization who made him what he is today and the fans who cheered for him. Can't (Brett) turn that around? How dare the PACKERS kick their meal ticket out of bed and not listen to the fans who's butts fill that stadium!!??! If he goes to the Vikings, and they beat the Packers the 2 times they meet this season, and/or go to the playoffs while the Packers are cleaning out their locker room before January....Ted Thompson is as good as done. I have a hard time believing the board would turn the other cheek....
.
Bottom line is the NFC North will be mighty interesting now, should this all come to a reality. Cutler/Urlacher/Hester, Favre/Berrian/Peterson and Jennings/Driver. For added excitement, let's say the Lions win, what--2 games this year??
.
PS--for Kampmann and Raji to dance on #4's chest, one of two things would have to happen: 1) they would have to be healthy and not on the ir/dl and 2) they'd have to get passed that brick wall Minnesota has for an o-line. I wouldn't bet on either of those....

You say Favre had 13 tds and 6 picks in his first 5 games with the Jets. Without that amazing 6 touchdown performance in one game he ended up throwing 16 tds and 22 picks in the other 15 games. Hurt or not, that is pretty awful. Plus he doesn't have the sense to take a seat when he is injured and hurting a team with his performance.

me_and_my_m40 - Favre was playing with a torn bicep the last 5 games of the season and was limited in his control and strength. If you want to throw around partial season stats fine, so will I. Favres first 5 games as a Jet: 13 TD 6 INT. He had a QB rating over 100 in 5 of the 11 games before he was injured. You obviously use poor logic thinking it'll be easier for the Bears or Packers to beat the Vikings with Favre at the helm. You mention he'll be the 3rd best QB in the North which means he'll still be better than Jackson or Rosenfels - both of whom are better than who the Vikings beat both the Bears and Packers with last season.

If Brett wants to go stink it up in the AFC, fine. But to come back to the NFC and play for a division rival out of spite and revenge for the organization that made him what he is and all the fans who supported him for so many years, then the Pack's motivation should be to knock the vindictive SOB out of the game early. Here's to Raji or Kampman doing a jig on #4's chest!

If Favre won't retire, then maybe, now, the Pack can make that decision for him. Oops, sorry, that sounds almost as vindictive as Wrangler boy, himself.

fisrt of all, this is old news. I knew 2 weeks ago that the Vikes would have Favre signed by the end of this week. 2nd, apprently you people don't watch football. Brett Favre was the 1 reason the Jets didnt make the playoffs last year. He single handly threw them out of the playoffs in that game aginst the dolphins. Look at his stats in his last 4 games, what 1 TD and like 5 INTS, lol!!! IO'm a DIE hard PACKER fan, and I hope he does play for Minnesota, he will be the 3rd best QB in the NFC North behind Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers, and it will only be easier for Chicago and Green Bay to win the NFC North when Brett signs with the Vikings. I think it wll make all the surrounding teams better, AWESOME!!! Instead of picking T Jackson off 10 times last year, the Vikings opponets get to pick off Favre... oh I'm going to estimate here and say 23 times this year!!! WhoooOOOooo GO PACKERS

"Brett loves to play football and he is still a good quarterback. He probably has more talent in his left pinky than any of the people who want to put him down. This is still a country where a man is free to follow his dreams and if he can land a contract with an NFL team, then he has earned the right to play, end of story. What are the Packers complaining about? They didn't want him, so it's either their loss or they have nothing to worry about."

Brett is an attention starved hillbilly who spent his last 3+ years with the Packers playing the same game of will I/won't I so that he could feed his enormous ego. As far as talent and pinkie fingers go, that ship sailed awhile ago. When he was willing to put in the time, as in '07, he's OK, but as witnessed last year, when he just wants to go at it on his own schedule the cracks begin to show by the end of the season. Bottom line, the Packers made the right decision a year ago, and if he wants to further tarnish his legacy by coming back yet another year to spray interceptions all over the field then that's just fine, I'm sure the Packer defense will be the beneficiary of a fair share of them. He was a great player for our team for a long time, but somewhere along the way he turned into an attention starved diva, and I'm sorry, I'm not going to turn a blind eye to that kind of behavior no matter who he is or what he did.

Question: (and opinion)
Would Brett Favre’s idiotic idea, oops! Sorry. Would Brett Favre’s possible comeback, oh wait, he never left, yes he did, no he didn’t, yes he did, no he didn’t, AHRH! Would Brett Favre’s possible comeback with the Vikings be a vengeful thing, an intelligent thing or just more proof that he just can’t deal with being out of the limelight? Give it up Brett and just deal with growing old. Your idea of “payback” is just plain stupid. I know that there are Favre fans that would never forsake you and I applaud their loyalty but please give it up before you totally disgrace yourself.

Also, none of this means he will play in Minnesota for sure. There's no way Favre is going to get the amount of money the Jets paid him last season, and most of his contract will be performance bonuses, and he'll be expected to prove himself as a worthy starter. He has still yet to report his injury (that he refused surgery on) has healed and he's ready to play again. The guy loves to play football and he wants to win the Super Bowl again - and Minnesota is the closest team to winning the Super Bowl that needs a solid QB.

Gandalf, thank you for being the voice of reason. Favre helped carry the Jets (along with their defense) last season. The Vikings have a much better supporting cast than the Jets and Favre will thrive in Minnesota's system which he is already accustomed to (west coast offense). Minnesota's offense is run using short precision passes, something their current quarterbacks have struggled with and something Favre thrives on. Just don't let him start slinging the ball downfield and he should do an amazing job in the purple.

This is good news for the NFL. The negative bloggers aren't being reasonable. Favre was having a great season last year until he injured his biceps. I don't think people were aware of his injury that caused the Jets second half of the season go south. Assuming that he's healed, he is a much better than average NFL QB, and he deserves the right to play.
