Fire station could get federal funding
A new Milton Joint Fire Station might be eligible for substantial federal funding, Chief Loren Lippincott told the Milton City Council on Tuesday.
The fire department, shared by the city and town of Milton, has discussed the need for a new fire station for years. Lippincott has applied for grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Department of Homeland Security that could pay for 80 to 90 percent of a new facility.
At the same meeting, the city council postponed a discussion of Alliant Energy's request to expand its substation.

Sounds like great news, but in reality this means the feds take money, and give us back some of it after we "apply" for our own money. We would be better off not having to send it to DC in the first place. And what's with the "Department of Agriculture" reference??
