MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The first cases of swine flu in Wisconsin were confirmed Saturday, as health, school and other leaders worked to limit the spread of the disease.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed two cases of swine flu in Milwaukee County and one case in Adams County, the state Department of Health Services announced. The cases were announced as probable on Wednesday.

Milwaukee Health Commissioner Bevan Baker said then the cases there involved an adult and an unrelated child. In Adams County, a man became ill after returning from a trip to another part of the U.S., Health Officer Linda McFarlin has said.

The state health department also announced Saturday that the number of probable cases has risen to 25. Some local health officials have put it even higher.

The state health department has submitted 430 samples for testing. Of those, 339 tested negative and 63 were pending.

Thus far, most of the probable cases have been in southeastern Wisconsin.

As of Friday, one of those probable cases was in Rock County.
