WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture says milk prices in Wisconsin may be on their way up.

The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service says Wisconsin's average milk price in March is expected to be about $12.30 per hundredweight, or hundred pounds.

That would be 80 cents more than February's average of $11.50 per hundredweight and the largest one-month gain in the nation. NASS says Idaho has seen about a 50 cent per hundredweight increase.

Still, dairy farmers are earning much less than a year ago. Wisconsin's average milk price in March 2008 was $19.50 per hundredweight.

Nationally, milk prices continue to drop. The expected U.S. milk price for March is $11.50 per hundredweight, or 10 cents less than the February average.

It's about time!! dairy farmers have gotten the shaft for too long now. It is still not enough but at least some progress. Even though we will be paying more in the store, the dairy farmers get a pittance of it!
