MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is expanding its online car pool program statewide.

The Rideshare program went online two years ago. Manager Karen Schmiechen says because it has been successful in southeastern Wisconsin, the state has taken it statewide.

Schmiechen says it's a way for people in rural areas who have the longest and most expensive commutes to find a car pool partner during economic stressful times.

To find a compatible car pool, users enter their place of origin, destination and work times into the Web site, and contact other users via e-mail.

There is already a long running program by the State called van-pooling. State owned vans are used to transport workers to Madison. There are five different routes which leave Janesville every day.

The program is available to non-state workers on a space available basis.

my son in law is part of this and it has been a great saver on their car. He also drives once in awhile and that will cut the cost even more. He thinks it's worth the money since you don't put the wear and tear on your own car. Saves the environment too.
