Jacknifed semi slowing Interstate traffic
Traffic is slowed after a semitrailer truck jacknifed in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90/39 near the Highway 14/26 exit in Janesville.
The semi is blocking the left lane, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol. Traffic is slowed as it goes around the semi on the right.
The accident happened at 10:56 a.m., and officials expect traffic to be slowed for about an hour, the news release said.

At least we don't have the suicide ramps they have in Texas and other states, there's literally 2 car lengths of ramp between the frontage road and the interstate...not fun if traffic is heavy.

Shopiere...you yield to CROSSING traffic to the right, not merging traffic.
Merging traffic always yields to the mainline traffic.

I myself like the on ramp at 11 going east bound onto 90. Heck I can be doing 75 before I even get on to 90 so much fun.

You don't need yield signs. One of the rules of the road is that you yield to those on your right. That means you move over for people getting on the interstate.
There is not much worse than some MORON slowing down when he is on the ramp, looking over hes idiotic left shoulder to see if anything is coming. That part of the ramp is so that you can be going the speed of the traffic when you get on the highway itself. If that part of the ramp is too short, give it some more gas, get up to speed so you don't get run over or cause some innocent person to get hurt.
If you can't figure out how to get up to speed when entering the interstate, I would suggest that you take a less complicated road, one that doesn't tax your capabilities quite so much.

......should have said "Milw. to the state line"

They're going to waste the money making 94 from Milw. to Chicago into EIGHT lanes which there is absolutely NO valid reason for doing..The 6 lanes there handle the traffic just fine.

It seems many drivers don't know what the word Yield means. That plus the fact the merge lane is too short. Until they make the ramps longer, etc, they should put up Huge Yield signs about evey 5 feet until the knuckle heads learn what it means.
Also a tracktor trailer can't zip over unto the left lane like a car can besides the fact usually both lanes are full and theres no place to go.
I-90 should have been updated years ago. But Madison used the gas tax money on their social programs.

I am becoming concerned that we need to have six lanes for the Janesville stretch long before the entire Madison-Beloit segment is widened. Say from the curve west of 26 out past Avalon Road. The entire project is a number of years away, but if this is any indicator there is already a traffic problem.

nscott - you do make part of a valid point. The people on the interstate do not remember the rules of the road. You are suppose to move over into the left lane, if possible, to allow entering traffic room to get up to speed and merge onto the highway. I drive the interstate a lot. You would not believe how many people do not move over. Then when they do see you, they act like it was your fault to disrupt their driving.
.
I will not say what state drivers I typically see doing that, but I think we all know. Anyway, people need to brush on their Rules of The Road handbook again. I am not saying I am the best driver, but at least I know what to do on the interstate when it comes to the on/off ramps.

The other problem with on/off ramps cj, is that when you are getting onto the interstate, you DO NOT have the right of way, the people already on do. That's where a lot of accidents happen because some people think that they don't have to yield to the already moving traffic and a lot of times those semis can't move over because the other lane is blocked.

I think alot has to do with the on and off ramps there. If you are entering on I-90/I-39 East/South from Milton Ave south you have to gun it to get up to speed after the curvey on ramp. And if you are on I-90 east and want to exit on Hwy 14 East you really have to slam on the brakes to handle the curve on the off ramp. I hope they reconfigure that when they make I-90 six lanes.

It's not underqualified semi drivers that are the problem. Most of it stems from the other drivers in their SUV's and compact cars that don't take into consideration how much time it takes for a semi with a 52 foot trailer to stop. How do I know? My mother drives semi's. I'm not saying some of it isn't their fault, but everyone needs to remember it's our priviledge to drive not our right.

What are the requirements for driving semis? This seems to be happening a lot lately. Underqualified drivers?

This is becoming a weekly tradition. Maybe we can get some lawn chairs setup there and wait for it to happen and make a spectator sport out of it. In all seriousness, I hope nobody was hurt.

Must have been caused by all that ice and snow on the road.......
