JPD investigate shooting incident
From the WCLO newsroom:
Janesville police are investigating a shooting incident Thursday night in the area of Ravine and Terrace streets.
Witnesses heard around six gunshots around 9:30 and saw several subjects fleeing the area. Police say two houses in the area, one of them occupied, had two bullet holes each and a car parked in the area had one bullet hole in it.
Several subjects were stopped and questioned, but police have no suspects in custody at this time. They hope to learn more from witnesses who contact them through CrimeStoppers or direct contact.

How can we blame the economy for this? Better yet, this shooting is probably George Bush's fault.

This was an insane night for the JPD and the RCSD. Thank you to all of them for doing whatever you could. I pray that they find whoever did this so everyone can sleep a little easier.

Uh, No, the statement below is false.
"Just to let you all know there actually was a shooting at a walmart last night. A woman was shot outside of Beloit walmart. And please don't assume that it was just because it was Beloit."

mickie-That's because Doyle likes to tax the crap out of easy targets and take advantage of the money makers. Hunting brings in millions of dollars to this state every year and this joker is ruining it. We need to get this clown out of office fast.

Carlitos- to answer your question- I dont know if its on the Eastside. But from what I have seen NO. But take a drive through the fourth ward or over by Bond, and yah- it appears to be little groups all over..

carlitosway....Good point, however it is mainly a typical thing anyway, isn't it? These areas are more involved in that activity and less people from prominent areas are actively shooting at eachother. Seems like everyone is doing drugs but these late night incidents are more localized.

Well, we know who didn't do the shooting. It wasn't any of the law-abiding citizens disappointed by Governor Doyle's twice vetoing the concealed carry permit bills voted on by Wisconsin legislators. They'd only be involved as targets and victims. They also aren't any law-abiding residents of Illinois, the only other state in the union with NO provision to allow law-abiding citizens arm themselves to defend against gang-banging drive-by shooters.

carlitosway: do you know any details of the body found? i.e. girl or boy, age, or anything else? I don't have a scanner but I know some people around there.

yes micki it was on the scanner and WCLO was there I have a question for you, why would you think it isn't on the eastside?if they were on the eastside it would not be made public.IMO. They dont look East they look west dont you read the locals? Also having sons in community with friends from eastside and some of "those" kids are involved. And FYI gang and drugs affect all income levels not just low income Why do you seem to label this problem as to income or area?.It is a cool thing to young kids to be part of and or rebel. I think you are being a little judgmental here. Just my opinion. I worked with a guy that lived in a very nice neighborhood and he was arrested for running quite the drug house and did time for it. A good guy and well liked by all he worked with, everyone was surprised when he was arrested. it does affect all walks of life.

Since I am still young enough to run into it
from time to time if you really want too see
what kind of gang presence that area has, just
take a nice drive by Bond Park (basketball court)
on a nice spring day.
Its no big secret.Im sure the J.P.D know this.
And for sure the people the live around there know it.Not saying drive them out if there not breaking the law at the time, just saying for those that are wondering if there really are gangs in there area.Yes there is.And getting bigger every year it seems.

I dont know... I dont see the gangs running the streets in the Briar crest sub-division.. I also believe the majority is low income, less privledged etc..I too also believe how we raise our children is a HUGE factor..

Gangs, drug dealers, thugs whatever it may be to minimize the activity is not right.it does not matter where they are from in your opinions It happened in Janesville!!!! The community has a right to know just how serious it was last night! the police were there for hours, searching area, surrounding residential homes and vacant properties going in clearing them and taking people into custody, Whether for questioning or not something needs to be addressed as far as our safety. The people shot at know who did it now they need to stand up with some b*lls and give up the names. If it were a drug charge the person would snitch to get a deal on charges and jail time..IMO The whole area was crawling with police from mineral point past ravine and Madison to Chatham and that is not a story that gets this small of info posted to the community. Just my opinion

This "Gang" crap just makes me furious. I just do not get where people young/old get into this type of thing.. Are people that stupid and ignorant to believe that being in a gang is going to make them a bigger, better, tuffer, person?? It seems like alot of losers and misfits all group together to bully people.. I wish sentencing for these idiots was so tuff that they wouldnt even think about this crap.. Or put all these gangs somewhere secluded and let them beat the ever-lovin-crap out of eachother til no one is left standing.. What ridiculous, childish sh@$, that our police have to deal with such IDIOTS.!

Every town no matter how big or small has an area that you can call a arm pit, just plain stinks, these are your low income areas where crime runs rampant, it is take or be taken why does this seem to suprise so many, it is reality. But most important it starts at home with parenting, in this day and age there are so many broken familys that there is no adult supervision for these young kids at home mom or dad have to work and cant be around , and then there is peer pressure, if your not running with the dogs then your not part of the in crowd, no I'm not making excuses for these kids just simply explaining my view on this matter. Hope that clears things up for some of you

did anyone else hear anything of a shooting at the beloit walmart? after katy posted it i looked on all the local news channels and papers online and there was no info there. you would think that things like this would get more attention. and that the community would be given a little more info either to comfort them or so that they know to be more careful

I hope we get updates to this as THIS is not a small sweep under the carpet kinda thing This is the threat of the community as a whole. As anyone one of those bullets could have hit anyone. I know the one on laurel went thru the wall into the next house! Thank God it was empty. Also there were kids in that home. I can say this as to knowing who lives there and getting first hand from them as to what happened...... This home has been shot at twice. it is a duplex so which one was the target we will never know...... As to no "snitchin allowed"

I ust dont understand how this is so miniminzed as to the amount of time and officers utilized including RCSD. They should give more of the actuallity, Why were some taken into custody, descriptions of some sort so the community can "maybe" assist. I say maybe as many of the younger ones and gang bangers have a street code and won't *snitch* regardless of the threat to anyone including their own. You cant tell me none of the targets don't know who would want to shoot them or at them. Not to seem cold but maybe next time it won't just be property that has the bullet holes maybe it will be the innocent ones/kids near by. I know as to the scanner there were sleeping KIDS in the homes they surrounded and searched.... All parties including the targeted ones need to be questioned until someone talks, as this is close to where I live and this hasn't been the first one ( 3 in about 6 months 2 other shootongs an Laurel) The safety of innocent people does not matter to these morons and anyone concealing the identity of the shooters should also be charged...They know who they are! IMO IMO i just worry that "the shooters in the other incidents have not been caught either and wonder will my grandkids be safe playing outside, will my family be safe, will my neighbors etc etc;? It is pretty scary when you really think about it.

Just to let you all know there actually was a shooting at a walmart last night. A woman was shot outside of Beloit walmart. And please don't assume that it was just because it was Beloit. I don't believe that there is a national gang initiation but as soon as that rumor went out, it gave gangs a good idea.

Yeah, those Wal-mart rumors were all over the country. Too bad no one realized that there isn't a national gang-initiation center to set these things up.

Live near there and this went on for hours. Had scanner on and at least 1 residence with apartments was surrounded and searched on Ravine and a vacant house was a point of interest. I just wish they would have gotten the jerks. They did take some people from the residence into custody. I dont know if they were held. It was a long night for JPD.

I know that. Figured that out early. My question is why not even a mention here about it. If for no other reason but to dispel the rumor. When under cover officers start hanging out at Sam's and employees are told not to leave the building, squad cars outside, I believe a little news on the story is warranted. Many employees were scared and could not get information. False or not, the police made a great presence but like a school lock down, parents and family would like to at least know something. Had to go to Rockford TV websites to get any info.

All I know is that when I got home last night I couldn't get onto Terrace, where I live, and that there was police tape at the intersection. Plus Police carring big guns with dogs, and was kind of afraid to be home alone.

Let's see if everyone starts to put Janesville down like they put Beloit down when it's a shooting there or put Madison down when it's a shooting there?
