JANESVILLE—Firefighters are on the scene of a kitchen fire on the first floor at 158 S. Jackson St., and traffic to that block is restricted.

The fire is extinguished, but firefighters are checking the second floor and attic as smoke continues to linger, Janesville Fire Cmrd. Craig Jones said at the scene.

No one was injured.

The fire started at about 8:40 a.m. when a resident was frying food on a stove, Jones said. The resident attempted to put the fire out before leaving the building.

The house contained six apartments, three on the first floor and three on the second.
