JANESVILLE—Deborah L. Wright, 38, of 3204 Rose Court, Beloit, has been arrested on charges of embezzling from Faith Lutheran Church’s day care center.

Janesville police on Wednesday arrested Wright, the former day care director, on seven counts of felony embezzlement and 46 counts of misdemeanor embezzlement.

The church fired Wright immediately upon receiving information that money was missing, said Scott Schroeder, attorney for the church.

Police say Wright, while entrusted with the accounts for Faith’s Little Friends Day Care, stole more than $50,000 from 2006 through 2008.

Police say Wright used the money for a variety of expenses including vacations and mortgage payments. The embezzlement came to light after an audit was conducted of daycare accounts.

Wright is being held at the Rock County Jail and was expected to make an initial court appearance Friday afternoon.

There is absolutely no reason for any of you to be discussing her family/children and their status. Those of you who are discussing her children are no better than she is. Get a life.

I worked for this church for over 11 years. I was there when the daycare was started. The reason that no one knew that this was going on was because they did'nt want to know. The people who pushed this daycare through were not going to look for anything that would jepardize their grand plan. Deb was elusive and secretive. She also did'nt rock the boat, which is why they left her alone. The leaders of the church were adamant that the church and day care be separete entities. The people who watched over the daycare center were average people who would not have been trained or schooled to catch something like this. Hi to all of the teachers that were there until 2006. You did a great job given what you had to work with.

Do all you people know she has children? And there kids can see what every move you make or do! The children and husband had nothing to do with this keep your comments to yourself . How would you feel if your if they were slamming your mother in public? Deb did wrong and I am sure there will be justice let the Law decide! But now your hurting the kids. The kids are going through enough , without all your blabbering gossip! I would appreciate it if you could please hold back your comments… for the children’s sake. My child happens to be friends with there child they have enough hard times from the children at there school! kids can be cruel. Adults are suppose to act older then school children start acting your age please. LIKE ADULTS

Interesting case...

Only a few things to add. She got 1500 cash bond today and an ok to leave the state for her son's boot camp graduation. I'm glad she can still afford to attend it.

Secondly, it's too bad for the church. Most organizations can't afford or won't spend the money for an audit yearly. I think most just hope they hired honest people. You'd think reviewing the books would be enough to notice some missing money though.

Since a lot of us are guessing here, I'll guess that she wasn't grinning smugly as she stole from a church daycare center. From the comments from hopeful24 about the mood swings, substance abuse like alcohol comes to my mind. Whatever the reason, she'll still have to deal with whatever the court gives her. I hope she takes this as a chance to do whatever needs to be done to straighten herself out. Forgiveness is in order in any case for our own benefit.

She was a very sly and deceptive person to work for. One day she'd be your best friend and the next you would be the worst person in the world in her eyes. I worked with her for 7 months and could no longer take her moods and favoritism. She totally got what is coming to her! Carma is a great thing!

I am a parent of a child who attends daycare at Faith's Little Friends. I want to let everybody know that the daycare teachers/caregivers that are currently there are nothing short of AMAZING! I am a mom who takes great pride and time in making sure my children are cared for at top notch. Some would say that I actually obsess about it, but when it comes to MY kids, they deserve the best because they are the best. When the former director was there, she rarely was around and if you needed something or needed to discuss something you always delt with the assistant director, who has now stepped in as the director. She is the BEST, and I say this having full confidence that she will do just fine in pulling the daycare through this with the help of all the wonderful teachers she has working there. She puts in long days and is there bright and early in the morning with a smile on her face and always helping out wherever needed.

As for Debbie, I hope she gets what is coming to her, and I hope and pray justice prevails and she does time for her crime. Seriously stealing from Children and Church? Wow that is a bold move. I am beyond upset to think that the money I have been paying for daycare has someway enlightened her life and not the teachers/caregivers who actually work and care for the children of Faith's little Friends. Especially in these times when everybody needs a little extra, she took it upon herself to pay herself more and the teachers less. The stupidity of some people is unreal and immoral.

This arrest should have no reflection on Faith's teachers and current director. They are all truely wonderful teachers and caregivers and they deserve nothing short then attention directed at that. They had nothing to do with this and they stuck it out even when Deb said times were hard and they couldnt get overtime or pay increases. That to me means everything and to know that they stuck it out because of the children they cared for says a lot of each and every one of them.

Looking foward to hearing more on the case and her inital court apperance today....hopefully bail is set high that she cant make bail!

She just started taking over the concession stand for the hockey league this year. I think she's involved in the baseball concession stand and her husband is/was (not sure if he still is) the president of the baseball little league. If she did do this, I hope that nothing is missing from those programs. I wonder if those programs will be looked at? btw - yes her daughter was ill, but no excuse.

I actually know some of this story - She was not a member of the church. She also hired a felon, she hid teh paperwork to do so, so until she was fired nobody say this paper work and that person has since been fired also.
Yes she has kids but that makes no difference, so do I, Im not stealing anything!
I also know a state auditor - do you kno whow many auditors the state would need to audit daycares once a year?
I can assure you that she wont work in a nother daycare. she Legally cant.
What differecne does it make what address they have printed? They either print mineral point for the church or her street for her house, either way it would ne just as easy to look it up in the phone book.
I feel sorry fot the new director, she will have a tough job cleanign up after this mess.

Yes, I believe Mindy Quinn actually saw jail time. She also ended up selling her house (probably because she couldn't afford it anymore, due to losing the skimmed high school monies she was stealing...)

I heard she moved to Janesville and someone mentioned where she was working, but its hearsay... so I can't be sure about where.

Let's not assume that justice will prevail in this case. It might be better to look back and examine previous similar cases like this. Help me out, but if my memory serves me correctly - Were there two Milton school(Which schools?) secretaries that had taken money from the schools? Besides restitution - Did anything really happen to them? Just wondering...

Having worked at this daycare under Debbie, she pulled a lot of wool over a lot of people's eyes. She almost cost the girls that work at this daycare their jobs, let alone the care of the children. Because from my understanding, there may have been enough money for one more weeks worth of wages. Also, she is no longer the director and has been out for a while. The article should have stated "Previous Director of Faith's Little Friends Daycare". Because it sounds as if she was still working there. Investigations had to be done to prove anything first before letting her go. The teachers that are there are excellent caregivers & instructors. And the director that has taken her place is reliable and an asset to the daycare. Debbie used this money for vacations, family bills, her kids extra-curricular activities, and drinking. I could go on and on about this woman. I truly feel sorry for her husband and their kids. Let's not forget all the hours she wrote down that she was working 40 hours a week. When in fact she was lucky she was there 5 hours a week. I bet those charges are not included in the embezzlements. But yet she came to work, not allowing those girls any overtime payments for hours they worked extra or on their own time taking work home everyday or raises because they were told that there was no money being made. Hopefully there is a follow-up by the gazette. Instead of throwing out the information with no ending to the story.

As a reader, I think it would be more beneficial to know the address of the church/daycare in question, than to know the address of the person accused of stealing from the church/daycare.

Now everyone. She never hurt anyone. She's not dangerous. She will probably be convicted, given County jail time, and then put on one of those diversion programs. Why she will probably get out of jail to go work at some other day care. There is no justice in Rock County anymore.

2 years passed before she was caught embezzeling... not so much a matter of why didn't they catch her sooner, but sometimes, an investigation can drag out to get all the facts... audits are done annually, however, falsification of documents is something that has the tendancy to be more difficult to track... the book may have said one thing, where as a bank statement may prove otherwise...

Anyway, this entire story is pathetic. SarahB, yeah, innocent. A simple "bookeeping" mishap of $50 grand. Yep. I can see that (rolls eyes).

yes, why did it take so long? I think there may be way more to this than just what is in this article. But, this lady was pretty kniving w/ how she spent the peoples money who had children enrolled there. I bet they feel cheated! There is proof that she is guilty. you'll see. I sure hope she has a long time to think about how she destroyed her life and her family's lives by being greedy and frivilous.

fact: innocent until proven guilty is a legal definition. in the court of public OPINION we are allowed to express our free speach perogative based on the knowledge at hand what we believe to be the truth. in the end, we may be right, wrong, or somewhere in between. we judge all the time. we develope opinions based on the facts we have or believe to have. these opinions may be subjective or objective. none the less, as americans, that is what we do.

She is not a member there. So I'm sure she felt no obligation to the members there. A church is still a business and the finacial aspects still need to be monitored. Especially, if there has been information brought up that might indicate that there is a problem. Yes, I'm sure she will have to answer to a higher power at some point.

I am making the assumption she is a member of the church? Wow! Of course audits should be done yearly, but we're talking about a local Lutheran church which probably has a simple following of locals who have had church connections for decades. Why would anyone question how money is handled? Its a church. We simply assume everything is on the "up and up".

For someone to steal from a church, I'd be less concerned with her earthly punishment vs. where her soul ends up!!! That said, she needs to be in prison and repay the money she stole!

It took two years because even though members of the church were informed that there were suspious things going on, they obviously chose not to investigate until recently.

She needs max penalties and I hope she gets it. Yet I read this article in todays gazette and what is the difference as to "Lawmaker says 13 firms receiving government bailout money owe more than $220M in back taxes" They in a sense stole money also and lied to get bail out money. If I owe back taxes do you really think the government will bail me out? No they will freeze everything I own and take ownership of my assets. Only in America can you cheat the government then get them to cover your over spending and losses due to high paid executives and bonuses.
