Health department urges homeowners to test wells
From the WCLO newsroom:
Spring is an opportune time for rural Rock County residents to test their wells.
Tim Banwell, the Rock County Health Department's Environmental Health Director, says a number of wells had some bacteria after last year's flooding. He says homeowners who chlorinated their water last year should test it again to make sure it stayed safe.
Banwell says 20 percent of the county's roughly 13,000 private wells could have high levels of bacteria.
This is National Groundwater Awareness Week.

Google "water testing" to find alternatives available via the 'net. For example, here's a do-it-yourself kit that tests for presence of bacteria; levels of lead, pesticides, nitrates, nitrites and chlorine; plus pH and hardness for $19.95. (This is not an endorsement. I have never used this product, only considering buying one.):

You can pick up a kit from the Rock County Health Department on Hwy 51 (accross from the park). When you return your water sample, you pay a $22 fee to have the sample processed. I know, because I just did this two days ago.

It's nice that the story suggests we test. But I've owned my cottage for almost 5 years and have no idea what to do. Do you call a professional, or is there a home kit that you can either send or take somewhere for the testing? This would be useful information. Thank you.
