Janesville School Board to discuss staffing
From the WCLO newsroom:
The Janesville School Board will hear about changes in school district staffing Tuesday.
The board begins to look at staffing cuts and additions for the next school year. According to a summary attached to the staffing plan, the plan is based on an estimated decrease of 47 elementary students, ten middle school students and 159 high school students
Based on this information, the administration recommends cutting 16 teaching positions, but creating 10 new jobs to help counteract the loss.

Maybe more parents need to get involved to free up some of the teacher's time ! If cuts are needed and/or made ... Something will have to change . We need to look at it for what it is .. Then plan for the future ! A parent a day to help out wouldn't be that hard to get i wouldn't think . Pay less registration with the agreement to come in once or twice a month to help the teacher ? Only an idea and maybe a solution . Stay positive here !

Like I've said before, The administration downtown are the ones making the bucks! Cut that staff and keep the teachers. That is what makes the most sense! Oh yeah! We're talking politics here and they don't understand common sense!! Let's vote all the encubents out of every office in the country from the local level on up and start from scratch!

SarahB1: I doubt this is as cut and dry as you make it out to be. I would agree that there could be less administrators but not teachers. If a child is in a class of 30 students he/she is less likely to learn as a class that has less students. The teachers are more likely to have time to spend with each student. Why is that so difficult to understand??????? Aren't you a nurse, I thought I read that in some of your posts? Being an educated person I would think you might understand something so simple, maybe you were in one of those overcrowded class rooms and you needed more one on one time.

Small towns, small minds. It's no wonder the optometrists make a fortune in Janesville with the myopia epidemic apparently running rampant.

SarahB. Cutting staff is a terrible idea!! It is very clear that your child is not stuffed into a classroom of 30. That is 30 per teacher. of course not all teachers have 30. You want to cut out teachers so that they can stuff 30 kids in every classroom? You bitter small minded girl.

Hmmm . . . due to decreased enrollment, the board wants to cut out16 people who actually do something – at a rate of 1 teacher to 12.9 students – to save money. Then they’ll create 10 new “makee-workee” positions? Let me guess, those positions will have higher pay, to ensure there’s no net savings? Did Cook County annex Janesville while I was sleeping? I sure hope there’s more to the story, because this has a real foul odour to it. I hate to see jobs lost, but if you are going to cut teaching positions because there’s less students, you don’t create new administrative positions to compensate. You keep the teachers and see what enrollment does next year, or cut the positions, period.
