Out of the act: Madison Rep out of business
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Madison Repertory Theatre is officially out of business.
The Madison’s professional theater group acting artistic director Trevin Gay told WISC-TV that the organization’s board of directors voted to “dissolve” the group late last month.
Gay says it’s ending for a variety of reasons including fewer ticket sales, lower corporate and individual donations and past mistakes in how the Rep did business.
Board of Directors President Ruth Domack says the debt is into the six figures with zero cash flow. That means it’s unlikely the 2,400 season ticketholders will get refunds on the last two canceled shows.
However season ticketholders can go to the Overture Center to get free tickets to two of six shows, including the musical “Hair.”
