LAKE GENEVA — Walworth County authorities have arrested a Lake Geneva man accused of leading deputies on a high-speed chase, fleeing after wrecking his SUV and kidnapping someone to drive him away.

The sheriff's office says Erik A. Johnson, 33, has been referred to prosecutors on 16 criminal and traffic charges.

Authorities say the man was speeding early Tuesday morning. When a deputy tried to pull him over, the man allegedly accelerated to more than 100 mph.

The man then crashed his SUV and fled on foot. While deputies were at the man's home interviewing his father, the man allegedly called home asking to be picked up.

Authorities say the man was calling from a home he entered without permission. The man then forced the homeowner to drive them both away in the homeowner's vehicle.

What a LOSER. He's lucky the homeowner didn't put him out of our misery. Kudos to law enforcement for putting a stop to his stupidity.
BostonBill: Suspects are "presumed innocent until proven guilty" only in the eyes of the criminal justice system (government). The rest of us mere mortals can presume that this dude is GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY.

The story had the just of it. Do we always have to nit-pic everything? That is why the local papers are in business. if you need to know every detail go get the paper from that city/town or go to the court hearing. Im glad they got him before anyone was hurt.

Okay. For anyone who wants to "defend" this culprit’s actions, I know he is innocent until proven guilty but if these allegations are proven, this knucklehead should start reading some How to Survive Jail books.

morenews: Thanks anyway. I found the information on another news site. It was updated there at 11:55 a.m. with the details by the way, ChsMkr. I was wrong to fault the copy editor at the Gazette. He/she did not edit out the details. Perhaps the Gazette doesn't get the top level of AP service. (That is, if the service still comes in different levels as it did in my old copy editor days 20 years ago.)

Uhhh, it's a late breaking news story from another county? All of the details likely haven't been finalized and released to the press. There will likely be follow up with full details. I hate it when people aren't patient and think they deserve full blown details immediately.

I've always said speeding AND kidnapping are a bad combination!

Okay, where is the rest of the story? What happened after the suspect kidnapped somebody and forced them to drive him to ???. I hate it when the copy editor does that to me as a reader.
