MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Milwaukee company that sells engine oil and related products is doing its part to stimulate the economy.

Moore Oil is giving its employees $2,000 toward the purchase or lease of a new car or $1,000 toward the purchase of a used car.

Company president Scott Haag says the deal helps his employees, and it also helps the car dealerships that are among his clients. He says it’s a simple way to help out during tough times.

Since he announced the deal in January, two of the company’s 75 employees bought new cars and two bought used cars. The offer is scheduled to run through May.

This isn’t the first time Moore Oil has had an incentive like this. The company gave employees the identical deal during an economic downturn in 1980.

I believe that the media coverage is the exception, not the decent treatment that a small business affords its employees. Notice that I said "small" business - the bigger the corporation, the more impersonal the treatment of the employees. Nonetheless, it's a thousand-to-one better bang for the buck, compared to, oh let's use the recent so-called "stimulus" plan as an example - waste upon waste upon waste. I guess one might think it's good if they happen to be a government appointee getting new digs on our dime.

Superdave, Yes a nice example of a company voluntarily assisting in this crisis. Unfortunately, this kind of action is so rare on the part of private enterprise that it makes the news when it does occur!

Another example of a private business doing something significant and meaningful, rather than the "gubmint" making some insanely wasteful, token effort. Kudos to Scott Haag!

Way to go Scott Haag. I hope it works and if it does, I hope others follow your lead.

Hopefully these employees will have a job with this company long enough to pay them off ... God Bless EveryOne....
