Doyle vetoes 81 items worth $10 million
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Jim Doyle is vetoing 81 items in the two-year $62 billion state budget. The vetoes amount to $10 million.
Doyle announced the vetoes on Monday, the same day he signed the new budget into law.
Doyle's vetoes leave most of the major parts of the budget deal reached by the Democratic-controlled Legislature in tact.
However, he did remove a Milwaukee Transit Authority that could have levied up to six-tenths of a cent sales tax increase to pay for transportation improvements and other county expenses.
Through his vetoes he further reduced the state's film tax incentive program, softened new minimum car insurance liability levels, and allowed more people to be eligible for a new prison early release program.

billnewbie, I know it's important for you folks to always play the victim -- something about not getting enough candy as a kid or whatnot -- but the fact is that the Democratic Senate between 2006 and 2008 confirmed more judicial appointees than the Republican Senate had, for the same Republican President. By last September, the number of judicial vacancies was at a low 3.9%. When Bush came into office, it was 9.9%.

Oh goodie more early releases for convicts. Instead of letting them out early, why don't we save money by taking away all they're free services like Cable tv, why not make them chip in for their medical care. Why do the tax payers have to foot the bill for law breakers in the first place. Lets make Prison real punishment. Better yet.. Lets build more prisons for illegals, and make all the prisons do what they do down south. Work on Chain gangs. There's lots of work they could do along city, county, & state highways. Why pay someone $24 an hour to pick up dead animals. Save money by making prisoner do it for $1 hour (or less.. you decide)

realitybytes - I believe I read something in a newspaper over the weekend that those issues were dumped before the budget got to Diamond Jim. However, I could be mistaken. If so, ooops!

Or, to look at this another way, for every dollar that the Gov. cut out of the budget, he left 6200 dollars in it. What an penny pincher!
