Andrew Steinhofer, a 2009 Madison La Follette High School graduate, birdied the last two holes to win the Ray Fischer State Medal Play Championship by one stroke at Riverside Golf Course. Steinhofer had rounds of 65 and 72 in Sunday’s 36-hole finale to finish with a 12-under-par 276 for 72 holes. Janesville’s Matt Behm, Colgate’s Tom Halla, Antigo’s Kelly Kretz and Appleton’s Patrick Duffy tied for second place at 277. I believe Andrew shot 73-69 today; a tad different than 65-72.
What a great way to win the tournament; making birdie on 17 & 18, especially hitting it to 4 feet on 18 to set up the win.
