MADISON — Gov. Jim Doyle announced he will sign Wisconsin’s two-year budget on Monday, two days before the new fiscal year begins.

Lawmakers gave final approval to the spending plan early Friday evening. Doyle can use his expansive partial veto power to rewrite large portions of the $62 billion budget. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Doyle planned to make any vetoes before signing the measure at the executive residence late Monday morning.

The budget closes a record $6.6 billion shortfall that was brought on because state agencies’ spending requests outpace projected revenue.

Doyle’s office said it will be the first time a budget has been completed on time since 1977.

Can anybody besides me picture our great governor sitting there bug-eyed and drooling thinking TAX,TAX,TAX,TAX while he signs this piece of garbage? It just continues to show how badly out of touch the "Ruling Class" is with the poeple that have to watch their money. It also proves how close our "elected officals" are to the lobbyists that line their pockets with cash. I would call it unbelievable, but I've been around too long and seen way too much of it. Kind of makes you wonder where they are playing golf today.

"budget...shortfall...brought on because state agencies’ spending requests outpace projected revenue"

Wow, did I read a story from the AP that said the budget shortfall is the fault of spending? I am sure this was a slip up by the editor/writer of the story and will be corrected soon...can't have the truth getting to the tax payers via the media.

"What a bunch of BS! what part of ILLEGAL don't they understand?"

That would be the part where "illegal" translates to "if I continue to block the passage of a voter ID bill by throwing out b.s. claims that it "disenfranchises" the elderly, then I can get those "illegals" to vote for me". That would be the part you're referring to.

What a bunch of BS! what part of ILLEGAL don't they understand? Can't wait for the major tax increase. Why would a business want to open shop in one of the highest taxed states in the US? The dems just don't get it.

In case no one has noticed, the element that will allow graduating ILLEGAL immigrants who have been in country for three years to receive instate resident priced tuition is STILL in place and ready to be signed in with this budget! I can't imagine who thought this was a good idea but it's truly ridiculous! Call DOYLE!! It's important!
