Bullet retrieved from operating room
JANESVILLE—A Janesville police officer was asked to stand by in a Mercy Hospital operating room Saturday to retrieve a bullet that was lodged in the head of a 15-year-old boy.
Rockford police made the request to retrieve the bullet.
A Janesville police spokesman said Saturday night that local police do not know details of the incident that led to the shooting.
The boy does not appear to be local, the spokesman said.
Rockford police would not comment.
The bullet was of small caliber, according to the Janesville police report. Pickup of the bullet was to be arranged Monday.

First, they don't have to tell you anything. Second, it is very possible that in a time sensitive situation, they call and ask just that. No details needed. Just secure the evidence until we can get it. Protect the chain of custody.

There's a difference between what they discuss between themselves and what the JPD can officially release. I don't think it's wise for them to jeopardize an ongoing investigation.

I don't think that Register Star story is related? Might be the two that fled on foot? The incident happened Thursday night at 11 pm, so I highly doubt the 15 yr old was walking around with a bullet in his head for 2 days?

Yes, should definitely say "in"... I also looked at the title and thought the bullet was in the wall.....

This is the Rockford story:

.
There doesn't appear to be anything in it that suggests a link to a 15-year-old shot in the head.

Shouldn't the headline be "Bullet retrieved IN operating room"? I initially thought there was a shooting in the hospital!
