Grants available to help low-wage workers
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — New grants are available for low-wage earners to help pay for technical college classes in the fall.
Gov. Jim Doyle announced a total of $1.5 million in grant money. The $1,000 grants are available to workers with no education beyond high school whose household income is currently less than $29,140 for a family of two.
The money can be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Eligible areas of study are those identified as being high demand occupations, including health care, biotechnology and energy.
In addition to the grants, up to $250 per applicant is available to pay for the cost of tools and uniforms, exam fees, transportation and child care.

I know I'D definately like to apply! I have ALOT of experience, but without a certification, my applications are being passed over now, whereas before there was alot of response. The recession has affected my ability to get my foot in the door, and only an educational hand up will help, so this is VERY much needed in my instance! I know once I get an interview I'll get hired. I have a great portfolio.

.
916WI, most financial aid is available to legal permanent residents. I believe that some programs are open to green card holders as well. Both are classes of taxpayers.

How would someone go about applying for this grant? I'm sure many individuals would really benifet from this.
