MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Conservation wardens and boat patrol officers plan to step up enforcement of drunken boating this weekend in Wisconsin.

The Department of Natural Resources says it will participate in a nationally-coordinated effort called "Operation Dry Water" Friday through Sunday.

DNR conservation wardens and municipal patrol officers will look for boat operators whose blood alcohol content exceeds the state limit of 0.08 percent. Penalties could include fines, jail and boat impoundment.

The DNR'S Todd Schaller says alcohol not only impairs judgment and reaction time, it can also increase fatigue and susceptibility to the effects of cold water.

Suggest removal After boating on Lake Koskonong last weekend, I can really see where the boat patrol is needed. I don't know if alcohol was a factor, but there were some pretty wild and crazy drivers out there.

simon you are right the Police and boat patrol should get the drunks off the water and roads . you can always tell a drunk they stick up for alcohol same as drug users .

Lake Kosh had quite a few boaters last week and I saw no sign of Bad behavior Simon. Guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Enjoy the next few weekends.

maybe the "crazy drivers" where just having fun. maybe you need a bigger boat than a row boat too. This day and age I wouldn't fault anyone for have fun. also I was out there and didn't see anything wrong going on. I think
simon you should stay home this weekend and next cause there is bound to be a ton of people having a goodtime

I think last weekend was the kickoff weekend for boaters in general with the weather finally warming up. Lots of pent up demand being released at once. Not excusing this but just my observation.
