Janesville principal candidate named
Stacy Kelley, principal of East Troy Elementary School, is being recommended for the job of principal at Janesville's Roosevelt Elementary School.
The Janesville School Board will likely approve Kelley for the job at its meeting Tuesday night. Kelley worked at Janesville’s Adams School from 1995 to 2007.
Kelley would replace longtime Roosevelt principal Lynn Karges, who retires June 30.

JohnDoe: I took the original "elementary schools don't have vice principals" as a general and blanket statement. Our district, while not the subject of this article, has .6 and .8 principals and some oversee "administrative committees" all while saving taxpayers money. Point is: Janesville could learn a lesson or two in fiscal responsibility and budgeting in these lean times. Budget cuts shouldn't always equate to cutting programming for the district's students!

Roosevelt is lucky to have her ! I have worked in 2 different school districts and 4 different schools. Stacy has been the BEST PRINCIPAL EVER!! It is all about the kids and you will find that very true with Mrs. Kelley! she is so much more than "just a principal" and I know that Roosevelt will soon see! Best wishes to Stacy and her new School, again you are very lucky to have her!

overthehill, Stacy was a teacher at Adams for 12 years, she went back to get her masters while teaching, the only principal job available to her at the time was in East Troy. She lives in Janesville and her kids attend school here. So, they did give the job to someone who lives here!!! She will make a wonderful principal. Roosevelt is lucky to have her!!

There was not ONE person already in the Janesville school system that could have been promoted to this position? It seems incredible to me that they had to go outside of their system and hire. That would have left an opening for someone else in Janesville to have a job. Bad move.

Ms. Karges will be greatly missed, my daughters have loved having her as a very active, involved, and, always positive presence. May the new principal be a quarter as good as Ms. Karges, she will do beautifully.

Do any of you have kids in elementary school? AT my children's school there is a need for one full time principal, that person is always busy infact too busy as they have a lot of meetings down at the school district. I have had children in school now for 10 years, and I have yet to see a principal with too much time on their hands. At our school we have a building supervisor that acts as the principal when they can't be there, but that teacher is also a learning support teacher.

woodsman is right. In other more major school districts, they are having principals double-up and act as principal for two schools. Surely we could do this too, especially given the increases in the administrative budget overall.

If the schools has a V.principal, why can't he or she do the job of principal,to save the tax payer some money, until times are better? I know i'll get some slack over that statement, but why do we need a P.& a V.P. Can you imagine the savings if the schools only had one or the other, thousands!
