Eastbound Interstate lanes closed
Both lanes of eastbound Interstate 39/90 north of Edgerton are closed due to the road buckling in the heat, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
At 3:58 p.m., the Wisconsin State Patrol announced that the left lane had buckled at mile marker 161, just over the border into Dane County. Drivers should expect delays of up to two hours.
Ten minutes later, the State Patrol sent out another alert saying both lanes were now unusable. Officers are directing traffic around the damaged pavement on the shoulders of the road, but drivers are being advised to completely avoid the area or detour around it.
Motorists traveling south from Madison should take Highway 51 south to Highway 14 and then return to the Interstate in Janesville.
Dane County highway crews are working at the scene.

In IL. they have signs up all through the state on the interstate system saying that the work is being paid for with stimulus dollars.

The money that was left in the highway fund after doyle siphoned off most of it for his political cronies, was wasted on the boondoggle of making I94 into 8 lanes in Racine and Kenosha counties.....nothing left for anything else.

With budget cuts don’t count on any improvements soon. The stimulus money is for new construction, yet once again the state doesn’t put enough towards upkeep. All the County employees that have state sections are not going to mow until fall, pothole patch one day a week, trash pick one day. That’s it, call the state and complain. Our roads need more attention then 3 days a week!

Other than a quick layer of blacktop a few years ago, it's been 25 years since the interstate has been maintained in this area. It's time.

Seems like I-90 closures, traffic delays, etc. have become an almost daily occurrence.
