sannio~~maybe it's just that (thankfully!) there haven't been a lot of state police killed in the line of duty that it's a common thing for our state.

guzler12oz, here's an FYI for you. "Your" is not the same as "You're". Not that I agree with sannio, necessarily, but from what I gather, YOU'RE the idiot.

Sannio...Not sure how it's unprecedented when, on numerous occasions, we receive directives at the National Guard Armory that the Flag is to fly at half-staff to honor persons other than Servicemembers (i.e. police officers and firemen) May be that you just haven't noticed before now.

The history of half-staff or half-mast goes back at least to the British Navy and was done to honor a deceased captain. The Flag Code states when the President should order half-staff, but it DOES NOT say "only" those instances are permissible. That is how some veterans groups, however, are recently interpreting it, because they have disliked some of the choices of persons honored. I do wish to honor veterans, but this is petty.

Not to belittle his the governor's decision, but, that seems a little unprecedented.
