Wis. budget in limbo until Tuesday
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A special committee of legislative leaders won't convene to work out a state budget deal until at least Tuesday, if it's even needed.
The Democratic-controlled Senate and Assembly each have passed different forms of the $62 billion two-year spending plan. An identical budget must pass each house before it can go to Gov. Jim Doyle for his consideration.
But the Senate on Thursday adjourned until Tuesday without voting to create a conference committee to reach a deal.
Senate President Fred Risser says he expects leaders from the Assembly and Senate to talk informally between now and then to see whether a formal conference committee will be needed.
Doyle and other lawmakers say they want the new budget enacted by July 1.

That...and the fact that the next budget is supposed to take effect on July 1. How will it look if a political party in charge of both houses of the Legislature and the Governor's office don't complete their work on time?
