Janesville man gets 25 years prison in Monterey Park attack
JANESVILLE -- A Janesville man accused of robbing a teenage couple and raping the girl in Monterey Park in September 2007 was sentenced Wednesday morning to 25 years in prison.
Kenneth D. Jarrett, 22, will be on extended supervision or probation for 40 years following his prison sentence.
Jarrett was sentenced in Rock County Court on two counts of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of armed robbery.
According to court documents:
The two 14-year-old Janesville teens were walking near Wilson Elementary School on the edge of Monterey Park when a man with a knife approached them.
After the teens gave the man their money, he threatened the boy and told him to walk away.
The man then sexually assaulted the girl.

ANR: do you know the easiest way to ensure you get a fair trial and sentencing?? Don't end up in the judge's courtroom to begin with!!!! Fair or not fair, doesn't really matter. Kenny had 33 "fair" sentences and chances before this one!! Keep rollin' the dice and eventually you'll hit the jackpot!

If ANR_1987’s thoughtful and much maligned (CONVICTED FELON) friend did this deed to one of my daughters, I wouldn’t want him to go to prison for 25 years. In fact, I wouldn’t want him to go to prison at all. Yeah, call me a liberal if you want but if he went to prison, it would be more difficult for me to spend some quality time with him teaching him some of the finer points of respect.
Fellow Dads with daughters, youknowwhatImsayin!

So then, if the death penalty is an unjust violent reaction to violence, with no evidence that it solves anything (at least no evidence that some will accept) then what value is incarceration for 25 years in our prison system where many seem to be hoping that this convict will be thoroughly raped and beaten on a daily basis in our apparently convict controlled prison system for as much as 25 years (unless he joins one of the in-house rape and beat down gangs which would then make prison life something less than just punishment, wouldn't it?)? I guess some think that an environment like that teaches convicts what kind of behavior our society finds acceptable. And as for deterrence, the recidivism rate for convicts such as these is a testament to the ineffectiveness our prison system as well.

ANR: You are a complete idiot to make such a defending statement as you did! for this garbage, maybe you have Hannis happenings in your life that justify actions like this. I like how the defenders try to implicate that this was done because of his up bringing, give me a break,we "ALL" have choices. His HARD times are about to begin again,if you know what i'm saying. This trash & them like him, should like the old days,be castrated, any reason why they don't do that anymore??

ANR_1987 Hmmm..1987, is that your birthdate? If it is that would make you about 22 yes? Is Jarrett a good friend of yours? Could the 25 year sentence have anything to do with him sexually assualting a 7 or 8 year old girl when Jarrett was 12?
-
For anyone against the death penalty, do you have any answers on how to fix the problem of recidivism?
-
And also, how does the death penalty equal violence?

All I need to know is what he did and then I have every right to judge him. As do any one of these posters. From your post it's not hard to figure out why you would be a friend or acquantince.

Janesvillean---> Isn't this always the case for some? There are always people out there that feel that the person who committed the crime should feel the same pain that the victim felt, LITERALLY. I would choose to agree with you on this because violence+violence=?? In my book it doesn't solve a thing.

In my honest opinion you all sit here and say all of this about this person when none of you know who he really is. All you hear or see is what is said on the news or in the paper. None of you know who he is. 25 years? That is to much. You see all these people committing murders and getting out after 5 to 10 years. You see people malesting and raping kids younger then this girl and they get a lesser charge. None of you have room to judge anyone. The only person that can judge is god. Everyone is ripping him up in the papers and these stupid comments you can leave. I am sick of hearing "Oh he is getting what he deserves." This was not a fair trial and for sure was not a fair sentencing.

ljs64 You don't have to slow down for me its stupid people like you who let these creeps back out on the street. Only to see them do something worse. The problem with why some people don't feel the death penalty deters is that these people know they will spend at least 10 years on the dole. With free room and board 3 squares a day and free health care. We need to set limits on how long it takes for them to wear out their appeals. Say two years granted the lawyers won't like it since they won't collect as much money. But in two years your done and then judgement day. Or better yet once the trials over its out to the big oak for some payback. We coddle these monsters and where justice should be served it is not because of all the bleeding hearts who think these people should have rights. As far as I am concerned they give up those rights once they do the crime. If they deny someones right to live then they too should give up that right.

I am very confused (not really, our justice system is BEYOND screwed up). Why would someone get this amount of time for rape (and I think it was a fair sentence). When people intentionally kill someone and are out in under 5 years??? Someone enlighten me, please!!

A dangerous man has been put away for a very long time, and after that he will be subject to whatever post-release monitoring technology that is in place in the 2030s.

The debate of whether a rapist like this should receive 25 years in prison or the death penalty shouldn't have anything to do with what costs more, or whether one is a better deterrent than the other, or even if there is any deterrence at all. It should only hinge on what is more just. We have the correct identity of the perpetrator, we know what he's done and he's been convicted. Is justice served by his incarceration and eventual probation, or would execution be more appropriate? From my view, the damage this man has done to his victims is irreparable and permanent. It seems to me that justice demands the same kind of sentence. I don't accept that the sentence he received is justice as he will one day walk free again, and probably sooner, maybe a lot sooner, that his sentence says.

It's a good thing that society will be protected from this predator for a considerably long time. On one hand I hope his time in prison is hellish. However I'm not niave enough to ignore the fact that he will, in all probability, emerge more sociopathic than he began. That doesn't bode well for the future.

I followed this story from day 1#,and the story made me sick, then anger followed. These "WERE" my streets that i hung out on,this would've been taken care of much differently in my day, with zero remorse. I hope this will help this little girl, and i wish her the best in her life after such an unforgivable act against her. Hate is one thing, but this poor excuse of the civilized world is not getting enough sentence,i hope he acts up,so maybe he can get sent to a prison like boscobel, where i think the guy that put dalmer to rest lives. Have a good life you scumbag,"ALL" your new girlfriends are waiting for you!

facts101: You do a lot of assuming for someone with a username of facts. A deterrent is something used to PREVENT something from happening. I'll slow down for you. The death penalty is NOT a deterrent because states that have the death penalty still have violent crimes occuring. Thus the fear of the death penalty does NOT deter those criminals from committing the violent crimes.

I AGREE WITH BOBB GIVE DISCIPLINING BACK TO PARENTS. maybe some good cracks with a spoon, kneeling in a corner, or a hickory stick would have taught this jerk something. kids now do as they please and heaven forbid the parent who tries to discipline. I pray the young victims, esp the girl gets a little closure, and who knows, maybe the jerk will drop the soap and find out what its like to be raped

The death penalty is not a deterent? One thing about it we don't have these scumbags getting out and doing anything again. Once your dead your dead and the world is a much better place without murders and rapist and child molesters in it. Bet this guy does maybe seven years and he is out maybe killing someone next time.....fry em

The average amount of time an inmate sits on death row seems to be about 10 years.Perhaps if that was shortened it would actually be a deterrence? As for the penalty of being convicted of rape, i can think of something between sitting in jail for years and the death penalty. It starts with a C and ends in ASTRATION.

Here we go with the death penalty. It costs MORE to keep a person on death row than it does to keep them incarcerated for life. The endless appeals and legal battles the death row inmate is entitled to. Get over it with the death penalty. It is proven NOT to be a deterent to criminals.
