Rockport pools open this week
From the WCLO newsroom:
Janesville's city pools are starting to open for the summer.
Swimmers can first take the plunge into Rockport Pool. Recreation Director Bonnie Davis says Rockport's main pool opened Monday and the wading pool is scheduled to open Tuesday. She anticipates Palmer and Riverside wading pools will open next week.
The opening has been delayed as Janesville works to be in compliance with the Virginia Graeme Baker Act, a safety measure designed to prevent accidents caused by strong suction from a pool's drain. Davis says Janesville is one of the only cities in Wisconsin to be in compliance with the law now. She says fewer than 50 pools--which include hotels, schools and waterpark pools--are in compliance in Wisconsin. Pools must be in compliance by the end of the year.
Davis says the designs from an aquatic engineer needed to be approved by the state. Some of the grates to be used on the pool drains aren't manufactured yet, since the law is so new.
Davis says she couldn't fill the pools without approval from the state, and that also made opening a challenge.

wish they would get their story straight. yesterday we called rockport to see if they were open they said yes. we also asked if palmer was open. again they sid yes. since we had younger kids we decided to drive across town to palmer only to find out it did not have a drop of water in it much less being open so we had to trek back across town and find out the kiddie pool was not open at rockport. kids disappointed.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I was even at this pool, possibly 11-12 years ago, wow I'm getting ancient ;)
