JANESVILLE--Leisure Services has lifted the water quality advisory from Lions Beach and will soon remove the warning signs.

Follow up water tests at the beach, 1401 Palmer Drive, confirm the pond is now within quality water level range, according to a city press release.

The beach remained open throughout the advisory, but swimmers had been advised to exercise extra caution. Direct questions to the city Leisure Services office at (608) 755-3030.

Sorry, HORSELUVIN....I am reading this a few days late....but thank you so much for all of the info....and I know what you mean about the horse "world"....it's that way everywhere, what matters is how you and your horse felt about you day.... :) Also, I as well learned how to ride bareback....I remember the first time I ever rode with a saddle .. which was when I was an adult, I actually felt as if I was disconnected from the horse and was going to fall off....funny!
.
HIGHJACKED THREAD? Are you serious? Get over yourself....too bad some of you are only here to crab about everything! There are some people that are actually outgoing and enjoy conversation....(OMG>>>>GASP!)

P.s Rummage...>I'm addicted to truck/tractor pulls ;) Shopiere has their annual "Shopiere Days" next weekend. They will have the truck/tractor pulls on Saturday all day, a dance and great food Saturday night at Shopiere Tap, the "Combine Derby"( this is a serious must see as it is quite HILARIOUS, my other half came up with the idea a few years back) on Sunday, along with the "mudding" that goes on (all the farmer boys showing off their trucks driving through a huge mud hole), and a parade Sunday morning. There is also a small carnival, softball tourn. and a tons of other activities, which = fun :)

Rummage--> There are pull at State Fair In August, Elkhorn has them in September. Do a simple "google" search and you will find TONS. The horse show went quite well for how large and political it was. You have to be the who's who in the area to place sometimes(no matter if it's a simple open 4-h show, or a class "A" show), and I'm not a "who's who" either. I took 5th in my halter (out of 12 or 13), 2nd in my 2 important riding classes (out of 13 in one class, and 17 or 18 in the other), and did great in my bareback class(learned how to ride this way, so it's a given). My two boys do rather well in open shows, so I was satisfied for the day :)

I love Pearl Lake, but they get more "picky" every year as to waht you can and cannot bring (due to others ruining it for us). You CAN still bring coolers, but they are going to search them, open bottles and smell them, and search some purses :-0!

P.S....how did the horse show go? And do you know any scheduled horse pulls in the area? Or a website that I might find them? I LOVE pulls!!!! My first one was at the state fair in Mil...oh what an adrenaline rush to see those two work together!

HORSELUVIN....last time I was there, you could pack a cooler. Can you still do that? Probably not....but yes, the little teekee hut atmosphere is fun! One foofoo drink and a lawn chair.....can you say AHHHH!!!

JWIM...you could be right, and I admit I am one of those that hasn't been there recently. But I have been there in the past, and was very displeased. In all seriousness, it can't be denied that Lions beach has gone WAY downhill....since it opened in whatever decade it was. And with people finding used needles in their yards in the janesville area (along with many other areas I am sure), I am not going to risk the health of myself or my family by going swimming in a body of water that has had numerous health risks seen to the eye, let alone who knows what is underneath that water that one would never know is there. I would never tell someone else what to decide, but that is my decision for my family. I guess I would have to say, swimming in any lake, pond, river poses risks, but this one seems to show more so than others on a regular basis.

You couldn't pay me enough to swim at Lion's Beach, JMO though.

Pearl lake is gorgeous! I love going there on a Saturday or Sunday when I don't feel like using the pool. The over priced drinks are not inviting, but the atmosphere is great :0) A little Jimmy "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and a Pina Coloda are great on a hot summer day ;)

I swam there a couple weeks ago- Nothing wrong with it. So maybe some of those that have a problem with the beach have not been there in person??

Yes, Pearl Lake is beautiful, and the atmosphere is very nice. I haven't been there for years, but you just made me think I am going there this summer for sure...thanks for the reminder! :)

Recall that the council decided to concentrate on Rockport Pool and leave Lions Beach at minimal maintenance to save money. I'd prefer both to be open but the greater investment is in the pool.

Maybe if Lions Beach would charge $10 admission like Pearl Lake in South Beloit does, it would be beautiful once again. Sad that most can't afford to go there. Pearl Lake is a gorgeous beach though. I miss going to Lions Beach in the 70's.

Ok, so now we have a nasty beach with semi-unpolluted water. I guess it's an improvement from last week, I'd still never swim in it. I can't imagine how many stray cats have been looking at the beach as one big litter box also. I suppose with the proper bio-hazard gear and protective suit, you could enjoy what little that beach has to offer.

Bacterial levels can change very quickly and having a high reading one day does not guarantee a high reading the next day. Be thankful the health department even exists, because life would be a lot worse without it.
