City may buy properties to expand park
Two potential city purchases in the Look West district could address two foreclosed homes, one of which is in bad condition, and expand Washington Park.
Some of the money would come from the federal Housing and Economic Recovery Act passed in 2008.
The city wants to buy a dilapidated home at 417 N. Washington St. next to Washington Park for $39,000, tear it down and expand the park.
The Neighborhood Action Team has recommended the purchase. The city would pay for the purchase through its Parkland Acquisition Fund.

Wow, nice to see those stimulus dollars creating all those jobs. I'll be sure and check out the newly expanded park while I'm dodging the still existing potholes and asphalt quiltwork of roads that we have in this town. Nice to see the city has its priorities in line though.

Bravo city of Janesville keep on spending. Hey I know why dont the city buy the whole fourth ward and the whole look west and turn them into one big park. Then maybe the city could keep going until the cheapest house in janesville is worth $300,000 that way then only the upperclass and the rich could live here wouldnt that be wonderful. Stop the spending you d%mb a#*es.

OpinionsFF, I assume you're in favor of building more homes on farmland while turning our plighted downtown neighborhoods into parks and parking lots. We do need to remove eyesores, but they should be replaced with residential buildings of some type. The further we extend the city boundaries the more we increase the need for more police and fire protection, garbage collection, street plowing, water and sewer lines, and the list goes on. More tax burden for you I.

Isn't this park big enough as it is? It's not like its a cramped space.

Why is a "dilapidated" house, in this economy, worth $39,000?

We need to think outside of the box to reduce the footprint of our economic oppression zones. We need smartfordable housing for our optionally residential, chemically challenged, and selectively perceptive residents.

Stop with the footprint crap. the city needs to do away with these rundown homes anyway they can. I think they should go even further and tear down more homes that are beyond repair.

Please, no more park space until we can maintain what we have. Use the space to support affordable housing (habitat for humanity?). We need to reduce our footprint.
