Police seek stray cat
Janesville police are looking for a stray cat that bit a man this afternoon.
A black, short-hair cat bit a 32-year-old man at 3:15 p.m. as the man was entering his apartment complex at 409 W. Milwaukee St., according to a news release from the Janesville Police Department. The cat had no tags or identification, the release says.
Anyone with information about the cat or its owner should call Janesville police at (608) 755-3100 or Rock County Communications at (608) 757-2244.

I heard they questioned another black cat who was long-haired and weighed nine pounds more than the suspect. This is racial profiling at it's worst. Pretty soon they'll be stopping innocent cats for no reason.

This is what happens when you close the cat house down.

I agree that people should stay away from animals they are unfamiliar with. Our problem is that stray animals seem to seek us out! They come on our porch & try to come in the door when it's opened. One dog, a pit bull from down the street, came into our garage when I drove in and jumped into my lap when I opened the car door! I guess somehow they know we're animal lovers.

Maybe they should check the local "cat house".

I'm sure it was also a case of someone getting too close to an unfamiliar animal to pet it.
.
Please, people, if you don't know the animal, STAY AWAY FROM IT! Regardless of whether it is on a leash. Biting is a defense mechanism for animals and if they feel startled or frightened, what's gonna happen? Someone will get bitten!
.
I have a feeling this is more the person's issue than it is the cat's. I've never witnessed a stray cat (or really any cat for that matter) come up to someone for attention and then bite them and run away. The cat probably felt cornered.

How is this even news? Is there really nothing else happening in Janesville? Better this than another murder I guess.

I hope the PD catches this dangerous animal soon. The widespread panic shooting through Janesville is too much to handle. I can't wait until we are all able to leave our homes again, and get on with our lives.

The comment about the cat being wanted in connection for multiple burglaries is funny LOL The comment about the club is not. It is disturbing, especially after the article in the last few days about running down deer. Harming another living thing is just not something funny. My opinion.

miyata312, leash laws are useless against feral animals, as you may be able to deduce. For the most part, they are enforced post violation anyway.
.
Devilsadvocate, rabies has been detected in the area recently, heightening the danger. But I haven't really noticed the same trend you have. There have always been these little one-line articles buried in the local pages.
.
The cat probably felt cornered. The thing is, rabies can alter the behavior of an animal to where it is more aggressive, so getting bitten could be because the animal is rabid, not because of anything else.

Black cats are the most common in stray cats that I have seen. A good idea would be to NOT try to pick up stray cats... They run away from you for a reason.

In the old days there used to be numerous articles looking for cats, dogs etc that had bitten people. Part of the problem was, that rabies shots, needed if the animal wasn't located, were expensive and painful. A series of shots in the stomach. Times have changed though and the shots are neither painful or expensive anymore. That led to many fewer articles. Then, just recently, the articles started up again. Any idea why?
