JANESVILLE -- Janesville’s triple homicide suspect will be tried before jurors from outside Rock County, a judge decided.

James Koepp, 50, can’t get a fair trial with local jurors because media exposure might have influenced their opinions on the case, Judge Alan Bates decided.

Koepp’s trial will be in Rock County, but the jury pool will be drawn from an outlying area, Bates ruled.

Koepp faces three charges of first-degree intentional homicide in the January 2007 slayings of Danyetta Lentz and her teenage children, Nicole and Scott.

Playing Devil's Advocate - he discovered their bodies, checked them to see if they were breathing, getting their blood on his clothes. He then realizes he's the most likely suspect, panics, and flees.

I'm not saying that's what happened. I've not seen all the evidence so I'm unable to reach a logical conclusion myself. While he certainly appears to have a motive, that in and of itself doesn't make him guilty.

The right to a speedy trial is indeed part of the US Constitution. However, a defendant can also voluntarily waive that right so as to provide more time to prepare his defense. It is a fairly common practice in cases involving serious offenses.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a change in venue. It nips an appeal in the butt.

I really hope for the sake of Scottie, Nicole, And Dani that something finally happens. I went to school with Scottie for seven years and he deffinatly did not deserve what happened and deserves justice. Even if Keopp didn't do it (which i'm sure it was) Then think about this... they're cold blooded murder is still out there. Three amazing people taken from the world....

Two and one half years later and still no trial? It sure seems they are draging this one out.

I worked with him. He is out there, mind wise. It did not surprise me at all when they pointed the finger at him.

Most believe he's guilty - but can the DA prove it? It took his office an awful lot of time to develop a case against him. From what I've read, it's mostly circumstantial.

I am confused they said that the local media exposure would not give him a fair trial okay do they think that the media did not reach out lying areas.

The motive was the alleged affair with the victim and that perhaps his then wife would find out. Who knows how he killed them. Stranger things have happened.
