Fire destroys abandoned building
ORFORDVILLE—An abandoned structure at 8309 W. Laird Road in Newark Township was destroyed by fire early today.
Orfordville firefighters were called to the scene at 4:25 a.m. today, according to a spokeswoman at the Rock County Communication Center.
When Orfordville Fire Chief Jim Ponkauskas left the driveway of his residence 3 miles away to respond to the fire, he said he could see flames and smoke coming from the fire.
“It was fully involved when we got there,” he said.
Where the fire started or its cause, to the single-story building that sits on three acres of land, is not known. Fire and Rock County Sheriff’s office officials remain on scene to investigate, Ponkauskas said. Ponkauskas did not know the name of the property owner, the value of the property or dollar loss at this time.

Kudos to Shelly Birkelo for thrice correctly spelling "Ponkauskas"!
